Hey hey! So we made some canna butter the other day....two batches actually. Actually no, we made 3 batches but for the purposes of the pictures the first batch will be referred to as "batch 0"
So I took 1/2 LB of shake and trim from a Fire OG Kush run I had....added it to 5LB's of melted premium butter from Henry's (nice butter to use just FYI). Simmered it at about 200 degrees, maybe a little under for over a day (I know some people say in 20 min you're good but hey, doesn't hurt to go longer ). Ended up with about 3LBS of canna butter from this "batch 0" of shake/trim and butter. Some of my HEAVY SMOKERS (and i'm talking they sit down smoke 3 bowls in 15 min of high grade medical out here in CA and then proceed to pack more ) - oh and BTW these were my test subjects for all of the 3 batches, so keep that in mind when you ask yourself later, "yeah ok but what will it do to me?!?!"....not to bore you but let me just say again I'm not sure I've ever know anyone to smoke more than these friends of mine lol. Anyway, they each tried a treat from this batch 0. they liked it, made them real relaxed, "did the job" so they said but didn't make them pass out.
Needless to say I was a little disappointed but hey, it still "did the job".
Well the Fire OG Kush got hit by some spider mites before harvest so it wasn't up to my standard of "pretty"...extremely frosty and powerful but it lacked the beauty.
I then thought to myself...ok well I took a 1/2LB of shake and trim....it was ok but I wonder.....
I decided to take a 1/2 pound of pure bud, yes that's right JUST BUD!!! LOL. I ground it all up in a cuisinart so it wasn't just big buds in there, it was fine, no real lumps or anything. I added this 1/2LB of bud to 5LBS of Henry's premium butter again. Simmered for a day or so, strained and then pressed the cheesecloth to extract maximum amount of butter. I ended up with about 14 or 15 sticks of butter (roughly 3.5LBS or so, it actually was enough to make 39 batches of treats - 432 actual treats or so LOL). Anyway, I took the 3 tablespoons required, melted it with a 10.5oz bag of Kraft Jet-Puffed marshmellows, only the best , and had my first treats from my "batch 1" of canna butter. Took this and dropped off enough treats so that each of my friends each had 1, just 1. I was expecting to hear back from them later that day....I heard back from them the next day. They loved these ones. They had passed out. I was stoked! This batch 1 of butter was WAY better than the batch 0. I gave some to some other friends who only ate little pinches of them and were "good to go" for hours and hours, and i mean like not 1/4 of it or an 1/8, literally little pinches (but these were light smoking people).
So my batch 1 was a hit. Great. But I felt I could do even better. I decided to take the 3LBs or so of the batch 0 cannabutter, remelt it in my slow cooker....added 5 more LBS of butter.....then proceeded to grind up the rest of the Fire OG Kush I had laying around. I honestly figured it would be just another 1/2 LB or so added with the original butter and would be just a little better. Well it turned out to be a lot more than that....it turned out I had another 20.67 oz of Fire OG laying around...so I ground up ALL of it and tossed it in! yeah ALL of it....then I remember I had some water/ice hash I had made from some of the trim too....so I threw in 4.1 grams of that as well!!! Simmered for a day or so. Made some fruity pebble treats with this batch as my test. dropped some off again to my buddies.....needless to say, well i'm sure you can imagine lol. I asked him how he liked them, he just paused, trying to think of what to say, and all that came out was "those were F****N CRAZY". so this is now designated batch 2 btw i got enough butter to make approx. 792 treats rofl, give/take a few.
I have some pics. I just made a batch of each and was amazed at the color difference between them. i'm sure it won't be as good in a pic as i can see myself but you can definitely tell the difference.
this is a picture of the two batches with just light from the room. you can see a slight difference in color. the left is the industrial strength (batch 2) and the right is the extra strength (batch 1)
here they are with a flash. you can see the color difference for sure here...however in person, the batch 2 one looks like i made them for st patty's day, no joke even though i am laughing about it
batch 1, i mean these looks like they could be just regular old rice krispie treats...until you eat one
mmmmm industrial strength, batch 2
