It looks to me like there is some revegetation going on in the greenhouse SSH plant. But it is also getting fatter buds at the same time. Hope this finishes in the next month here. The Black Sugar Rose are doing well. The clones are all doing well. The seedlings are another story. I am realizing now that Fox Farms is not a good medium for seedlings. Very slow going. Only 2 of the Mister Nice SSH are doing okay at this point. Only 2 Katsus one of each of the Harlem Shuffle and one Moses is alive. I will be using some Coast of Maine seedling soil for the Piff Coast gear and have made room in the germinator for this soil. 20240424_170916.jpg20240424_162925.jpg20240424_162938.jpg20240424_162854.jpg20240424_163955.jpg20240424_164001.jpg20240424_160543 (1).jpg

All of the Piff Coast gear sprouted. They were all planted in germ boxes using Coast of Maine seedling soil. Unfortunately I broke off the head from on of the Harlem Dreams sprouts. So looks like I will only grow one of these. But the one I did plant without breaking has already sprouted through the soil. The other 3 Midnight Mass I planted properly with no breakage. Hopefully at least one of the MNS SSH regular seedlings will be a female.20240425_170922.jpg20240425_070639.jpgScreenshot 2024-04-25 175516.png

Topped the larger of the two Black Sugar Rose. These plants are interesting in that they seem to grow with two canopies, one on the left and one on the right. Different from the standard Christmas tree formation of a marijuana plant. For the smaller plant I can definitely see it growing in this bi polar if you will kind of way. The greenhouse SSH plant seems to be past the point of no return for budding. She is just going to keep budding and budding until an explosion of uncontrollable flower dripping with trichomes and shooting pistils. So I keep feeding these plants until their thirst is satiated. I know that they are in the water only Great Lakes and Purple Cow Indicanja but I am still feeding them around a 1/2 dosage of Fox Farms nutes. I do a couple to 3 teaspoons per 2 gallons of water of each of the Grow Big, Tiger Bloom, Cal Mag, and that brown stuff made of bat shit. Oddly enough mixing all of these together with the water produces a PH that needs no adjusting. Of the sprouts all of the Piff Coast seeds have sprouted with the exception of the one I fumbled and broke the head of during transplant. Just my opinion but I think the Coast of Maine seed starter soil makes a difference.20240428_142114.jpg20240428_135321.jpg20240428_135534.jpg20240428_124949.jpg

Update : Both MNS SSH have died in the cup. Was disappointed with these seeds. From the start these seedlings would not take off in growth and were very weak to begin with. Sort of shoddy genetics if you ask me. Will have to try again later.

One of the Black Sugar Rose plants is looking very wilted with droopy, yellowing leaves. Anyone have any idea what is going on with this plant? I water on Wednesdays and Sundays. Have been watering with the standard 1 tsp each of the 4 Fox Farms supplements to one gallon of water.

The Katsu and Piff Coast Farms seedlings are all still alive20240505_103732.jpg20240505_103741.jpg20240505_100131.jpg20240505_100141.jpg20240505_095958.jpg20240505_103732.jpg20240505_103741.jpg20240505_100131.jpg20240505_100141.jpgThe greenhouse SSH plant is about 3 weeks away from harvest from my estimate.

The Katsu seedlings have both pretty much died. I don't see these two making it. Was really looking forward to growing that Harlem Shuffle.

The three Piff Farms seedlings have all rehabbed nicely under the sun in the greenhouse for the last week. I have moved all three (1 Harlem Dreams and 2 Midnight Mass) into the tent where they will be vegging with the 2 Black Sugar Rose. In about 2 weeks I am planning to flip to flower and the 12 hour light schedule. Currently the tent has been running daily 18/6 schedule.

I moved out all the SSH clones out of the tent and into the greenhouse. Notice the clones that were in the tent and their revegetative growth versus the clones that were in the greenhouse that just kept flowering. 20240508_164937.jpg20240508_164944.jpg20240508_164952.jpg20240508_164958.jpg20240508_152213.jpg20240508_152204.jpg20240508_165745.jpg Also got a rack for the greenhouse. The SSH mother plant is about 2 weeks away from finishing. Last 2 waterings will be water + molasses only only. Oh and once the Piff Coast seedlings grow a little more I plan to take clones of the Midnight Mass and especially that Harlem Dreams.

I have more or less my arsenal of weed ready and growing. This is going to be the harvest with the exception of some Piff Coast cuttings I will make.

As far as the mother SSH plant I never spoke about the effects this plant gives off. First of all, it doesn't smell that much at all to be honest. Not as pungent as I thought. If I stick my nose in the plant what I do smell is like a musky, sweet woody smell. Kind of like maple syrup + cuban cigars maybe? Kind of like an old wooden church smell. Like old teak wood. Kind of sweet. It definitely smells better than those autoflowers I grew. But that's another story.

May 12 : Need a truss rod for the greenhouse SSH plant. Stuck my nose in her again to identify the smell. I've had what was called Super Silver Haze in college in Philadelphia during the 90's. It was 60 or 70 dollars for an eighth and it was typical green, kind bud. Kind of had a piny scent to it but the smell was that kind bud smell that you all remember. This plant doesn't smell like that. I haven't smelled any weed like that honestly in the modern era and it is really like a Berenstain Bears moment. But I trust my memory.

Piff Coast seedlings growing. Will need to scrog, LST these ladies in week or two. The Black Sugar Rose don't need LST/Scrog imo. 20240512_180521.jpg20240512_180510.jpg20240512_173123.jpg20240512_173312.jpg20240512_173142.jpg20240512_173249.jpg

During the mid 90's I was able to purchase some weed in Haight Ashbury and around the Mission District in San Francisco just off the street. Dime bags of kind bud were going for 10 dollars for about I would say half a gram? Little green baggies with stars on the them. Typical Northern Cali indica dominant kind bud back in the day. Lime green, smelled great, dank, and kind. Piny, earthy, smelled like a forest. Someone saw the post and recommended this strain : Hashberry

Reading the description and what people wrote about it, I see this strain was really popular around 2007 to 2010. People have rated this strain pretty highly from what I gather. However the dominant effects and smell this strain emits seem to be more fruity/licorice/spicy aromas. I think the recommendation was probably given because the founders of this strain said the mother came from a bag seed bought from a hippy in a purple van in Haight Ashbury in the late 80s?

I know that the weed I bought at the time was the weed that was in circulation at the time in the area. To me the guys that sold it were probably just some guys from Oakland or some pan handling hippies who in turn got the weed from the guys in Oakland.

Anyways weed from the 90s when rappers were singing about chronic, hydro, dimes, blunts, endo, trees, etc were mostly the skunky, dank, earthy, piny effect weed unless it was kush. We will see if this weed comes close. Going to just plant 5 in solo cups and see if we get some females. The price was right and these will replace the Katsus and Mr Nice that have died on me :(

May 15: Gave an extra dose of Tiger Bloom for watering today. Got a metal truss rod to support the greenhouse SSH. Didn't take a pic but one of the Katsus came back to life. Not sure if it's the Moses X Platinum Kush or the Harlem Shuffle. Will defoliate the lower nodes of the larger Black Sugar Rose on Sunday by taking cuttings for cloning. 20240515_114828.jpg20240515_125447.jpg20240515_114309.jpg20240515_121205.jpg20240515_122059.jpg

Mandala seeds came in yesterday. One of the most discreet packages I've received for seeds. Came in like a brochure with the seeds hiding in the binding of a Spanish newspaper. Not sure why they have to sends seeds like this as I thought seeds contain no THC and are novelty/gift items. Going to just plant all 10 of these regular Hashberry Mandala seeds in solo cups and grow them outside for the fall harvest. Going to do the hydrogen peroxide, paper towel thing for these seeds to ensure most of them hatch.

I've topped the Piff Coast Farms plants. The Harlem Dreams is in the 5 gallon pot and the two Midnight Mass are in 3 gallon pots to the left and right. This weekend I am going to tie these down to the fabric pot using twist ties to prevent these from growing too tall. Will need to defoliate the Sugar Black Rose. The one Katsu that came back to life is also inside the tent in the front.

5/25: I tied down the Piff Coast gear with twist ties to the pot to prevent these hazes from getting too tall. Somehow, I am hoping to get an even canopy of flower with the Black Sugar Rose. Flipped to flower today and a 12 hour light cycle. The Katsu is probably way too early to flower as a seedling but I want to flip early before I let the height of these plants get out of control.

All 10 of the Mandala Hashberry sprouted their tap roots. Unfortunately while moving stuff around in the greenhouse I accidentally spilled close to half of the 10 cups after I planted them. Maybe I will get 5 or 6 plants and of those who knows how many will be female.

Took a cutting off the greenhouse SSH plant. I wanted to wait longer before harvesting to let the buds fill in some more. Already it is growing too heavy from its own weight and flopping all over the place. Going to let the cutting dry for a week and put some in my pipe and see how it smokes. 20240525_105009.jpg20240526_143618.jpg20240526_143641.jpg20240526_143712.jpg20240526_143627.jpg20240526_143622.jpg20240526_120427.jpg

Took a couple bowls of the SSH cutting. Greenhouse Seeds SSH bought from Seedsman Seeds.

Preliminary smoke test results tells me this bud is not the real SSH. I wasn't sure what to think. Sort of a weird head high.

Whatever it was, kind bud it was not. Sometimes I think these seed sellers are just laughing at our faces. Anyways I found out today I have bigger problems. 36 celcius in the greenhouse. Today is not a hot day. I may have to scrap my entire greenhouse grow. There is nothing that can survive in those temps. 20240512_173249 (1).jpg20240528_130117.jpg20240528_125717.jpg20240528_130657.jpg

6/2/24: Only 1 of the 10 Hashberry sprouted properly. The rest of the plants are 1 week into flower. 2 Black Sugar Rose (back row), 3 Piff Coast (middle row - 2 Midnight Mass on the left and right and Harlem Dreams in the middle). Katsu, either Harlem Shuffle or Moses X Platinum Kush, in the front.20240602_182328.jpg

Nute schedule : 2 gallons of tap water + 2 generous teaspoons each of Fox Farms Cal Mag, Grow Big, Big Bloom, and Tiger Bloom. PH always comes out around 6.5 using these exact measurements. Water like this on Wednesday and Sunday night. 1 gallon of tap only on Friday night. Will water like this until harvest. Black Sugar Rose are in Great Lakes Water Only Soil and the rest are in Purple Cow Indicanja, both water only soils. Great Lakes soil definitely has a water absorption problem and it shows in the smaller Black Sugar Rose plant. Going with Purple Cow only from now on. Coast of Maine Seedling soil for sprouts.

Oh, chopped the SSH and have it drying. Already have someone I'm going to "donate" my harvest to. It's Greenhouse Seeds Super Silver Haze. Definitely not real SSH. Or maybe I had a very bad phenotype.

6/5/24: The Piff Coast plants are now getting close to being the same height as the smaller Black Sugar Rose. I defoliated the 2 BSR. Further LST'ed the PCF plants. Got 15 seeds from CannibasCrusader, Meltdown. Popped all of them in hydrogen peroxide+water. I'm going to sprout these in the germinator again and then just plant them outside around the middle of the month once they get bigger.20240605_182604.jpg20240605_182622.jpg20240605_185745.jpg20240605_192209.jpg

6/9/24 :

Piff Coast gear is stretching good. Soon these plants will overcome the BSRs. I can't really do much now in terms of LST. Maybe use truss rods for supporting lanky buds and then tie them to the rods laterally. These haze plants structurally are quite different from the BSR. Very lanky with 4 long limbs. BSRs are just very bushy. I fully expect these hazes to grow around 5 to 6 feet.

I accidentally broke off one of the main lateral branches on a Midnight Mass plant. I thought about taping it back to the plant but realized that may not work. So I just inserted the branch into the soil hoping it will just root itself. Seems to be working so far.

Defoliated the Piff Coast plants. The Katsu plant looks very similar to the Piff plants. So I am hoping it is a Harlem Shuffle.

Tent smells musky. Too early to talk about whether that smell is catpiss or church incense. Got a couple of EvaDrys to lower the humidity in the tent. It has been over 70% and 80% after watering.

Random smoke report:

I was able to get a hold of 3 strains recently from a grower. Not a dispensary. White Widow, Chemdog 91, and Black Triangle.

I am not sure who the seed breeder is. What I do know is that the dank is still out there in some form. This gives me great hope because I know the genetics are still floating around. They are not gone forever, but exist in some form, somewhere out there. The DEA did not torch all of the good plants during 2007 to 2010.

It's like as if the legend, GOAT, what have you, gave up the game, retired had some kids and then his kids grew up and are out in the world doing there thing. You see these kid and although it's the first time you ever saw them, you say to yourself "where do I know you from?".

The fragrance was there for 2 out of the 3 strains. Not quite 90s smell but more like the what bud evolved to around 2005 when hybridization was taking root. Skunky, but had a more fruity component than the 90s shit which tended to be mostly skunky, funky, foresty, piny, citrusy. Still had that distinctive sweet, pungent fragrance from high end weed however. Just a little bit more added fruity component in addition to that kind bud sweet smell. Also had some hay-like smells as well but that could be because it wasn't fully dried/cured.

As for the high well if you smoke weed and forget what you were thinking about or suddenly find yourself thinking all kinds of random shit, then you know the bud is pretty good. Also when noone is standing beside you or next to you but you suddenly feel like someone is standing next to you. You're sort of tripping and the bud is doing all of that with its psychotropic properties.

You can only get these kind of effects from dispensary weed if you don't smoke for like 2 months and you have virgin lungs and tolerance.

I smoke daily all day and if weed makes me feel like that, there is something there.

Anyways with good weed, the trichomes and stickiness is so prevalent that not only can you smell it, taste it, touch it, but the entire weed just oozes with terps. I think that is what is missing from most of today's weed. Because weed is commercialized and mass adopted, to keep up with the demand, supply needs to be there. People just select any healthy looking plant as their phenotype and start cloning it. Besides regular, non-potent bud doesn't look much different from potent bud. You can't really tell how smart a person is just by looking at them. There are dumb looking people that are totally smart and vice versa. (caveat - with weed however I believe you can tell how good it is by the smell)

I'm beginning to see that good weed is basically just freaks. Freaks of weed. If they were humans it would be those humans that are 6'6" or 150 IQ or can run a 4.3 40 yd dash. Freaks.

When people need to supply weed for an entire region of dispensaries they can no longer just grow freaks. They need to start growing regular bud without all of the selective breeding.

The freaks are out there. That's what I need to focus on. So far I've grown regular marijuana I'd say just because I didn't go through enough to find that special plant that has way more trichomes than the average. But I believe they are out there. That's what the kind bud market was like in the 90s. Just regurgitated clones off that same freak.

Enough rambling. Some pics of the new weed I got. If this was 1995 these would go for around 50 per eighth. Not solid kind bud but definitely very high end mids if not getting into that realm of the kind. I think the grower didn't find The Freak with this bud but it's like in the same family.20240612_081822.jpg20240611_184323.jpg20240611_184311.jpg
