how about we have a noobie competition (there are some yield formulas on the site) for the best yield from the first growth?

Coupe we may have to disqualify you...20oz on your first grow. What are you like a 3rd generation gardener, just born with the skills?
Maybe we let you in but you gotta use a hermie or something...

here is the formula from the site -

2000 watt flowering area
60 days of flowering
12 hours on light cycle
total yield: 49.5 ounces

1) Divide the total wattage of your lamps by 1000 to determine the kilowatts per hour:

2000 / 1000 = 2 kw/h

2) Multiply the previous result by the hours of the light cycle (usually 12):

2 x 12 = 24

3) Multiply the previous result by total days in flowering to determine how many kilowatt hours you used:

24 x 60 = 1440

4) Make sure your yield is in grams, so:

28.4 x 49.5 ounces = 1405.8 grams

5) Now simply divide grams by kilowatts:

1405.8 / 1440 =

0.97 grams per kilowatt hour, or a GE Rating of 0.97! Good job to the hypothetical grower, approaching a GE of 1 is the first plateau to be reached and is a sign of an experienced grower.

Naw, Im still a noob actually, my 2nd harvest will be in a few weeks, bagseed plants. Then its the ICE and Aurora Indicas turn. I blame it all on RIU! And of course my bomb ass setup helps.

This competition would be to easy for an HID grower to win, maybe we should make 2 categories, HID and CFL

here' s a formula for determing the efficiency of the grower. the idea is to equalize things like light used so someone can't buy the competition with 5 1000 watt hps lamps sitting over one plant.

hypothetical set up:
2000 watt flowering area
60 days of flowering
12 hours on light cycle
total yield: 49.5 ounces

1) Divide the total wattage of your lamps by 1000 to determine the kilowatts per hour:

2000 / 1000 = 2 kw/h

2) Multiply the previous result by the hours of the light cycle (usually 12):

3) Multiply the previous result by total days in flowering to determine how many kilowatt hours you used:

24 x 60 = 1440

4) Make sure your yield is in grams, so:

28.4 x 49.5 ounces = 1405.8 grams

5) Now simply divide grams by kilowatts:

1405.8 / 1440 =

0.97 grams per kilowatt hour, or a GE Rating of 0.97! Good job to the hypothetical grower, approaching a GE of 1 is the first plateau to be reached and is a sign of an experienced grower.

In a perfect world we would all have a pair of 600w MH and HPS hanging in our closet...

I agree though CFL vs CFL and HIDvsHID

this is what i've got going:

3x3 open space in 4x10 closet
600 watt air cooled hps
amsterdam sativa/indica blend
five seeds, four remaining plants
fertilized with miracle grow (got stoner lazy)
topped once 1 week ago
vegged for eight weeks, flowering started 7/26

count me in, my first grow: YouTube - Growing marijuana LED's, CFL's.

today ended 19th day of flowering and day 50th.

i cant say wich bulbs i used, cause i grew with single 5w LED diode for 21 days, than added more leds, than in day 29th i swithced to single 20w CFL + LEDs and later i used 3x 20w CFLs, than again later 2x 20w and one 40w CFL, than after fief days added one 20w CFL on side. sooo... you know, its all kinda messed up, but i think im doing great job if you know what i mean .... 21 days with 5w LED for 7 plants... lol
