So I went to visit a buddy of mine in Maine and for my birthday he gave me some bomb bud and seeds. Now the seeds he gave me he told me hes been saving for 25 years only the ones that were hard and looked healthy out of every different bag he's bought over those years. My question is what are the chances of finding something really spectacular in that bunch?

Take a guess at how many you think are there too

Easily 1000+ seeds. Well, if you are a young man with decent resources and dying for a lifetime hobby; here's your sign. I would bet there is decent stuff in there but ya gotta find it and propagate it. Best of luck :)

I've done it on a very very small scale and its a lot of work; I'm still not done. Germ, clone, flower the donor, do ya keep the male, test the flowered donor if good keep the clone, etc
Couldnt I just force hermie it with silver and get the female seeds? That should work and then save some pollen to and start making some wacky crosses. Whatcha think?

I did that after I got something worth keeping. If you just wanna have fun, then germ a bunch every season, but you'll lose it even if its good unless you clone it before you even know its worth keeping. See what I mean?

if i had a decent size setup, as i have no idea what you're working with, i'd grow a few out each crop, but still grow some proven genetics along side of them, that way if they turn out to be duds, you're not out a complete grow cycle..
i doubt they'll all be junk though, and will probably have more than one keeper.. only way to know for sure is to get cracking..

yeah, he'd have to keep clones of everything he runs until after harvest, than can cull the non keepers at that point.

could end up being a lot of work, depending on how many beans he has, and how much room he has to devote to getting through them all, and of course what he's looking for, so on and so on..
Yep, its a young man's game. I've been toying with just 2 strains for a couple years. This year is when I'm making fem seeds and the strains aren't stabilized yet.

Edit: should say young person's game. lol

I guess Im a little confused. Say I get 5 fermales after I pull the males. Then I spray a branch from each of the five females with colloidal silver to stress that branch into making pollen sacks. Collect the pollen carefully and pollinate a bud or two from each female with its own pollen and making it produce a few seeds. So after I pollinate the plants I just grow them out and at the end If I feel one or more of those plants were nice then I save the seeds and the pollen from each of those and use it in the future to create a couple crosses. In my head it sounds easy but Im sure its not that easy lol.

That's doable. The way did it, I could get 2 generations per season. I'm old, don't have alot of time left lol

You came to a grow forum asking if you should grow or not, I didn't even read the thread but choice is obvious. There is only one choice.

yeah, you could do that as well.. the only thing with going the fem'ed route vs clones from each one, the fem'ed seeds all won't be 100% identical to the plant it came from vs a clone being identical.. depending on what was dominant and what was recessive in the original plant will depend on what the offspring using a chemical like cs will look like..
