Another Cree CXB3590 DIY thread

With my 3070's I did a small bead from corner to corner in a X with a dot in the center, very quick and easy but the 3590's are too big for that without wasting a lot of paste.
The X method I think is the next best thing to spreading it even in thin layer. Spreading it in a thin layer does produce a few more small air bubbles though.

Captain I like your approach to template.

Here is how I made template for Vero 29. I did not use a scale. For CXB 3590 i was just going to put it on a transparency sheet and use the sharp knife i had.

I just cut it like this. Got a A4 size transparency sheet from Office Depot for .50 cents each and pretty thin. Not sure how much thickness.

Here is what Not to Do. Use template on heatsink and not the back of cob.

Here is how cob looks with thermal paste mounted on a transparent sheet. Gives an idea of how a COB sits and uniformity of paste. Note how too much paste was used.not so clean job.

I align 4 screws

Artic Silver 5 is thicker so hard to clean template after use. Much easier with Artic MX 4 as it is thinner and easy to clean.
I use IPA to clean the template so i can see screw holes incase they get blocked.

Will consider getting this to measure exact thickness.

Edit: I use my old insurance card to spread paste. its similar to credit card but thinner.

I think the transparency film is perfect solution I believe they are usually between 4-7 mil (.004-.007 inch)

When are we going to see you on the octopot site testimonials like the lady pictured here?

No testimonials for me,they're selling so good now they raised their prices, greedy bastards. The grow store in my area is their number one seller location so everyone around here is using them. She works well in tents as long as your scrogging.

Bonjour
I really like your Octopot...I am going to look for a similar system here in EU if it exist...
What kind of vegg light do you use?
How long does your GG#4 vegg before
and was it in Octopot too?
Do you grow always only one plant in your 3×3?
Did you try with more and find that only one is better?
Have a great day ★
