Ben Carson says he would “intensify” the war on drugs

http://rare.us/story/ben-carson-says-he-would-intensify-the-war-on-drugs/

The proposition that the war on drugs has been a complete failure continues to become more of a national consensus, as evidenced by polling in recent years, the proliferation of relaxed marijuana laws in multiple states and even both major parties promoting criminal justice reform.

In 1996, conservative icon William F. Buckley led the anti-drug war charge when National Review published its cover story The War On Drugs Is Lost.

That was nearly twenty years ago.

On Wednesday, Glenn Beck had a rapid fire question-and-answer session with Republican presidential frontrunner (at least in Iowa) Ben Carson.

At one point Beck asked, “Do you continue the war on drugs?”

Carson’s reply? “Absolutely, I intensify it.”

We can’t be exactly sure of what Dr. Carson means by “intensifying” the drug war.

Before that comment, Beck asked “Legalized marijuana?”

Carson said, “I disagree with that.”

At the same moment an emerging majority of Americans are embracing legalization and leaders in both parties are calling for an end to drug related harsh sentencing, it’s hard to imagine a more counterproductive position to take, for Carson’s party and his own candidacy.

Besides a majority supporting legalization today, the 90 million Americans that qualify as Millennials will be the largest voting bloc in the country in the not too distant future.

Even 63 percent of Republican Millennials agree with marijuana legalization.

Good luck with that, Dr. Carson.

So recreational legalization of cannabis is the only thing that matters in a presidential candidate.

Hear ya loud and clear.
It's a litmus test for me.

If a candidate doesn't understand that the drug laws have done more harm to families than drug abuse then I wonder what else they don't understand. For a black man to have that stance when blacks are harmed by our drug laws at a higher rate is disappointing.

Aaaand. he's a doctor. He should understand drug abuse is a health problem not a legal problem. Recreational use should be nobody's business, abuse is not fixed with laws, locking up parents doesn't help the children.

I respect the dude for what's he done with his life and agree with him more than most of the other candidates but the stuff I disagree with him on is pretty major.

If nothing changes, I'll most likely be sitting out the vote, I can't ever remember being so unimpressed with any of them from any side or middle. There are no candidates right now that feel like the next president to me.

Exactly like every republican, no matter how they spin it.

Come November 2016 when Rand Paul hasn't been nominated, nor elected, but hasnt changed his stance on industrial, and recreational marijuana, will you restore my bandwidth?? as a way of saying "hey, i was wrong twice, nobody is perfect, preach on, ghost, preach on" Pointing out hypocrisies is far more challenging with my limited bandwidth. You really validate the hypocrisies by deleting my post where you told you have jim crow mentality, but let your @UncleBuck toy play so freely with calling people racist, but when your called, its bad? The truth hurts?

What do you like so much about him?... Think you're voting w God? Crazy town.....

Ben Carson is the Republican black friend.... Nothing else
Ben Carson is an American success story. He's an excellent speaker, but not a polished politician. If he had the correct political filter more people would love him. I'm glad he says what he thinks though so we get that insight. A career politician would know not to do that and tell us what we want to hear instead.

Any idea what Hillary's real position on.. well, anything really? Is she against wars? Is she against wall street? Is she on the side of the ecology or the side of Monsanto? You could say the same about Obama. What they say doesn't line up with what they do. I at least believe Dr. Carson even if I disagree. Most politicians you are a fool if you believe them.

Sorry for laughing, but we've all been there for the same reason.

In case I'm wrong let's clear it up, anyone here receive that passive-aggressive slow down without a hissy fit by floor shitter being involved?

why does everyone want me to be someone else? it will never be determined whom i am, because i am me. i have not changed usernames, or IP's based on previous bans. I am just a well educated hacktavist whom came to RUI to find like minded counter culture people, and found well trained sheep, instead. most of the energy spent here is used to divide each other.

That's why I cannot understand how there are so many republicans on a pot growing site.....unless most of them are just posers or closet users
Closet users eh? How dumb of people to not push their habits, and beliefs on others. All pot users should be advocating for its legalization, and dedicate their lives to that. Hmmmm sounds like marijuana is your own personal Jesus? To each his own.

I'm not gonna let em catch me no, not gonna let em catch the midnight rider.

I wouldn't agree he's an excellent speaker... Stuttering idiot maybe..... He sounds sad and pathetic, weak.... Like he's depressed and suicidal

All we need to know about Hillary is Benghazi and whatever the next attack on her is

I attended a continuing ed class on neural synapses and pathways after cardio-vascular accidents. He was a guest speaker and lectured for about 45 minutes. Seemed like 5. He was in his element there.

Please tell me you support Obama while calling Carson a stuttering idiot, that would be too good. Ever see what happens when there is no teleprompter? Holy stuttering idiot batman.

I bet Carson can read a speech as well as just about anyone and when he's talking about things he actually knows (I don't think politics qualify for the category) he really is fascinating.
