kinda new to the forum thing so quick question before I get started, is it safe to post pics from an iphone here? Any precautions I need to take before posting?

Alright now to the good stuff, room is 36'x12' with 10' ceilings, totally sealed, insulated very very well, mini split, 2 tables one on each side 4' wide that run the length of the room, automatic drain to waste system using 7 gallon smart pots with coco. Room is now where near full at the moment and only using the first 10' of a table right now have 1 platinum p1200 and 1 kind xl1000 and some led fixtures on the wall to help penetrate the canopy some.

Now to my questions is it feasible to do some diy led lighting in a setup this large? If not should I stick with the larger panels like I have or is more smaller panels a better option?

I think you would be better doing diy in that cost to build a light that would be as good or better then the kind light and a whole lot cheaper

it`s more the man hours making the lights

I mean 50w to 100w per cob seems to give the best gpw but do you want to rig up that many units ?

if I`m doing diy led now days I go for 300w to 1000w chips, less work and good output or I hunt around for a deal on some new or used lights

with a good diy set up you should be able to light from above and 1 to all 4 sides get some nice heavy buds all the way down the plants

Just got a quote for a 1000w 3000k smd based "cob" led, it`s got 4 sets of screw terminals, so I`d go with 4 x 200w drivers run it @ 800w.... they were $160 with postage

The kind of size rig your going to need I would shop around for heatsinks, cob chips and good drivers at a good price then decide if its worth your time to build them, but building your own makes fixing and replacing them easier

Or just shop around grab some deals on loads of different types of lights work out what kind you like best or start building some and replace them as they get old or break with what you like

the space is worth the money if you grow good herbs the equipment more than pays for itself in a yield or 2 plus for many its a passion/hobby/love/way of life so you see people constantly upgrading

Also I find grow equipment`s value changes so much, someones wife for example finds out what they are planing to do and they all of a sudden ebay has 100`s of "unused" "nearly new" lights and fans and such on there

so yeah depends how handy you are and what other options you have

normally it comes down to people wanting to keep the heat down or the electric bill down

I find best thing about led is you can normally pump 1200w of led in a space that would get a bit hot with 600w of hps, so you can fully use your space.... but also lots of people using less power of led getting less yield in a space but much higher gpw

depends how much space you have and how much you want that space to work for you

Thank you, exact answer I was looking for. Mainly looking to keep the power bill as low as possible and keep the room sealed.

then you wanna go with 20 to 60w per cob and spread them out, lots of people on here that have built their own

Personally I`d source a 200w to 400w induction lamp cheap for the center of the room and build your around to complement that

but most led fans hate induction lights and won`t mix them

If your using co2 then you can push to atleast 30c at canopy maybe even 40c

Looks like you wanna find some of them CBX chips or some other good cobs cheap, get like 10 to 50 chips and some heatsinks mount them up then find some drivers and fans

Personally I`d rather go atleast 200w to 800w per chip, I`m the same with tube lights why would I use a 50-60w t5 when I can get a 200w to 400w induction lamp for £20 to £100 ?, same with cfl`s I only use them for seedlings or clones and half the time I`d rather use a 40w ES induction over a clf just that supermarkets sell cfl`s and I used to grab them from work for free

but past seedling/cloning stage I`d always go with HPS, MH, induction, LED, CMH, LEP and LEC seem to be the best lamps out there, not used T5`s but some people are getting good herbs with them too

this sounds like a small warehouse commercial grow. seems you would be better off with 630 watt LECs in a space that large

http://fifthseasongardening.com/an-introduction-to-lec-light-systems these are a high pressure MH bulb that provides a spectrum close to sunlight. the local hydro store tells me that commercial growers up here are replacing 1000 watt HPS lights with ) watt LEC ( light emitting ceramics) A.K.A CMH bulbs and getting higher yields and better quality. G.E sells them as spxx cmh bulbs http://www.gelighting.com/LightingWeb/na/resources/tools/lamp-and-ballast/spectral-power-distribution-curves.jsp commercial growers up here have found that these bulbs actually do what LEDs claim to do. the local hydro stores do not sell LED grow lights because there is no customer demand for them. growers have found that a 630 watt CMH will outperform a 1000 watt HPS with less energy use and a lot less heat.I'm not in love with these lights. i'm a small scale PU MMJ T5 grower but these seem to be the hot new light for large scale commercial grows. just another option for you to consider

Vertical aka side ways lights sometimes sideways plants too.... but the kinda size your doing I`d say Ttystikk would put you in the right direction for low power high yield cronic, I normally deal with 1m to 4m kinda size gardens where floor space is the biggest factor, don`t get too many power useage or heat issues and I`m always on a low ass ghetto budget

check out the vert section looks like vert would suit your space and needs best just what kinda lights is the big question, lol

Oh ok I got ya now. Yea got lucky and kinda found myself in a situation where the budget is nice as long as the return on the investment is the same, but would like to get the most bang for my buck. Space isn't an issue the other side has a table that runs the length of the Room as well.

I think the best bang for your buck in a large area would be the CLU058 3618 @ 250 watts each covering about 3'x 3' per COB. That keeps your efficacy over 40% and your cost much lower overall.

You could still vert with that system

its more about how you set up the lights and train the plants with vert for the purists

Now for some people vert means growing your plants on the walls or some crazy chamber but for most it just means they have a hps lamp hanging down instead or laying ontop, lol

Cxb3590 cobs r the all around best cobserved on the market
