Matching Drivers and COBs

Well I don't have a PayPal account, refuse to deal with them due to a dispute several years ago. I'm assuming that they want payment from/through PayPal as opposed to paying with a credit card through PayPal.

I don't know why or how. Just talk to Jerry or one of his "minions". Tell him that u don't want to use Paypal. And ask if there are other ways to pay. If u want to make a deal then fix it with Jerry.

If u don't trust Jerry or Paypal then no deal.

I bought a debit card at the grocery store, loaded it with the amount from Jerry, added it to the PayPal account. Bam! Paid.....received my items 10 days later. Ordered on a fri. Evening.

Well my beef with Paypal goes back about 12 yrs when I was a seller on eBay, lol. And call me stuborn, but when I swore I'd never do business with them again, I meant it, and if they were the only online payment system in existence I would just pay by check or m.o., they'll never make another dime off of me as long as I live :finger:.

But it seems like b.s. to tell me that they can't sell their products via the normal process on Alibaba. It sounds to me like maybe they're trying to skirt paying Alibaba their cut of the business, cuz that crap about Citizen "is not allowed to make custom clearance" just doesn't make any sense, imo

One problem I kept running into, no matter how many different businesses I checked with, is trying to find ONE PLACE that has all the stuff I need. And I was only looking for 30 COBs (15 x CLU48 1818C4 4000k and 15 x CLU48 1818C4 2700k) and 5 Meanwell drivers. Seems everyone was short one or more of these, so I finally had to buy from 3 seperate vendors.:cuss: It just seems weird that the inventory of all these companies is pretty damned thin, a big pita if you ask me, lol. The final bill came to a little over $1200, more than I planned, but then it is an investment that should pay for itself after a couple of grows, right :bigjoint:

I hear ya. I was part some civil litigation with paypal a year or so ago. Only used the service once in the 8 or so years I had it. Was also leery about the china purchase but after seeing a few well known members here recieve their purchases with no issues, I gavemit a shot. That followed by ypthe second issue you stated, finding an all-in-1 shop for the commin diy'er. Had to source from 4 different vendors myself.mIt is a pita.....the sheer joy of building my own, afternhaving paid over $1.000 for a premade fixture, while increasing my footprint, coverage and yeild for less power, was rewarding in and of itself. Indeed it does pay for itself in a few harvests. Good luck on your build.

There are just so many parts available and so many different models Ext. I purchased 300 cobs from a Distributer for the reason they had all the additional parts I needed, my final bill was just short of 25k. Let me tell you northern and cobkits are not making a lot of money off selling parts to us. Not nearly enough to stock what they do without a serious capital investment. These guys get as much of my business as I can send their way just for these facts. Good luck to you

I have a question about the type/size pot to use with the HLG 320H 54B, I still haven't figured out how to match these, and the same goes for the resistor, I made a note about that but not much else, lol, so not sure how to "size" that either. Any suggestions are appreciated ;?)

Dimming through resistance works in a range of 0ohm to 100Kohm. 0ohm is most dim and 100Kohm or more is brightest. Some people use a low limitter resistance of 10Kohm to prevent dimming to 0% and to make sure that the max resistance is or is more than 100Kohm when a 100Kohm potentiometer with 10% tolerance is used.

I believe that it is safe to dim to 0%. I measured the current through the dim wires when short and the current was only 1mA. The lights don't go out total but glow very dim so there is a load at the driver.

My driver runs for hours and hours with the dim wires short to test. The drivers is cold and the leds glow nice and even.

For maximum dimming range i suggest a 150K potentiometer without a low limitter resistance.

Happy hollidays!

PS is the english good enough? English is not my original language. My original language is Amsterdams.

Nice info as mine isnt fully bright wide open

I know its been said before, I got the idea from RIU. But, my own solution was to run a switch in series with the pot. This way you can break the circuit completely and KNOW you have max power. :) I think the 10k resistor in series w/ a 100k would be easier if doing many kits/lights. But, depending on the tolerance of your specific pot/source, you still wouldn't get 100%. I tested a couple of mine at 78-85k ohm.

I even have a driver that outputs more than another wide open for some reason. I bought that one used so who knows.

Just wondering for the folks using more than 3+ meanwell drivers, are you guys using 2-3 drivers per 15amp circuit breaker? How much amps does 4xcxb3590 72v @700ma pull @ 240v outlet?

I'm deciding on getting more COBs, but heard that depending on the breaker, it can only handle 2-3 drivers. Is that 2-3 drivers turn on at the same time, or the maximum amount of drivers on that particular circuit breaker. I like more info on people running over 1000w of COBs, and did you have to make a subpanel circuit breaker?

I've heard this as well and I've encountered exactly no problems, ever.

Is 5400W total from 24 COB LED fixtures big enough for ya? lol

Indeed. NGL will always have me as a customer. Pity every1 went their own ways. Yea I know it is selfish of me ,but I enjoyed those You-tube discussions Robin,GMau5,&GGu used to have. Never got a chance to order from GG's store. But I hit cutter up for sinks once . NGL has been my USA go to since!
