HLG550 vs Gavita? Anyone with experience with either/both?

@CobKits, yes that is true although not too cool, actually, 70°F (20°C) is a nice temp at the root zone, but above ground, depending on the strain, in my opinion 75.2 - 80°F (24 - 26°C) is generally a target to aim for.

@hybridway2 I have some questions if you do not mind.

1. Is the quality better with HLG?
2. How does yield compare between the 2 lights?
3. What type of 1000w HPS are you running?

From what I have seen so far with HLG 550's is that there is an HLG 550 vs 1000w HPS grow currently running by a guy called GML, he mentioned that he failed to correctly dial in HLG 550 side, yet from what I can see the HLG's are definitely hanging with the 1000 watters.

My only thought is what could he have achieved had the LED side been a good to perfect run!

You don't want to keep your tent below 80 if you're using white light LEDs. In fact, you want to keep it above 80. This is because LED doesn't put out the infrared light that an HID does, and you want your canopy temps at or slightly above 80 to aid in transpiration.
vpd says no. you're mixing it up with metabolism. but you can achieve the same vpd with different temps...

So am I getting this straight? After reading all these comparisons I am getting the impression that the 550 can beat a 600 watt hps in yield with less watts and heat and comes close to a 1000 hps in terms of total yield.

Is this correct?

Let's say you did a 4 x 4 with some nice Goji in it from rooted clones under a 600 watt hps. You ended up with 12 ounces. Then for the next run all you did was change to a 550 and the same strain gave you 16 to 20 ounces because it "almost" equals a 1000 watt hps.

Would this estimate be correct? I'm having a very hard time believing this and I'm an open minded guy :blsmoke:

depends. if youre only getting a half a gram per watt with a 600HPS you might not get 50% more yield in the same space by replacing it with the LED. The LED certainly has about 1.5X as much light as a SE 600HPS, but it depends what you do with it.

Lack of frost was from overwatering and too high RH. High 70s and low 80s humidity is not good. It's proven running lower RH increases frost. I imagine the opposite would be true in an opposing situation.

The HPS side has been 50-60% vs 75-85%.
Still waiting on some clarity of the cost to dehumidify the LED room vs running the AC longer periods of time in the HPS room once the Quest Dehumidifiers are set up.
It's no secret that those pesky dehumidifiers suck damn near the wattage of an efficient AC system and need to be disclosed as part of an honest comparison. :peace:

The 24Liter per day unit I have on order uses 300 and something Watts.I am mostly getting it for drying and curing though.

I know there are Heater based units too that suck power.

call the guys at quest

ill bet they can steer you in the right direction as to what % of an ACs cooling load is dehumidification

of course they know their dehueys well but they also have a combo dehuey/minisplit now

From that example no. If you're only getting 12oz from a 600w hps then either you're not filling the space properly or something is going wrong with the genetics/environment. Adding more light wont solve that.

This forum is hilarious.
Must be some real fucking Master Growers up in here.
I've never seen such discouraging input for someone who would be a new grower and just wanting to grow themselves a few plants for personal use, especially in the legal states with a spare closet.
Oh cool - Hang this HLG550 and I'm guaranteed 1000g of top shelf dank... Oh wait you mean I need to spend $1000+ on that light but it won't work on it's own? I also need a $1000+ Dehumidifier cause only the most efficient will do - don't wanna be caught using one of them janky wally world 70 pint fuckit's.
Plus I better get me some Mammoth P too while I'm at it cause we all know - Plants Won't Grow without that shit!!

The yield claims in this section of RIU invoke one response - BULLSHIT! Pics or it didn't happen Bro! :peace:

i love this from his first post
qoute The LEDs will save you a ton on your electricity bill, they'll put out WAAAAAAY less heat, you'll run less risk of light bleaching your plants, you'll actually be able to see your plants under them, and in my opinion will increase quality across the board. Oh, and you'll very likely see higher yields too.

He has almost no experience, but he has an opinion on everything.
and 2g per watt EASILY...

>>>well yeh ANYONE who can not get even the paltry 1g per w
are basically failures..i know i am

ok i can getv 1g w led..BIGDEAL..i am still a failure

i had my first HID and hydroponic setup i 1979
have grown big beautifull trees..still did not hit 1 g per w..

but i think 2 g per watt will be easier..

hey maaan the cool people are getting 3 + now

i am having to deal with confidence issues because of it..

laughter helps

For someone who spends as much time on this forum as you do, you do seem to disregard the success stories and instead just grouse about how full of shit LED proponents are. I notice that you don't tend to comment on the posts that actually support (with data - including those pics you're asking for) the assertion that LED can out-yield HPS, but you do jump all over anything that can be construed negatively. There are pics all over, dude. You don't seem to want to acknowledge anything that conflicts with your paradigm.

I'd be happy to find out that I've got you wrong.

And don't forget you have to run 50 watts per sq ft 12" from the canopy and temps in the high 80's or your plants will get sick and die .........

Possibly, but if the environment/genetics off in the 1st place its still an uphill battle.

Welcome back :) ...lol
haha ive given up trying to stay away...i'll be travelling the other side of the world soonish and i'll still be here hating on the non led growing naysayers!

yeah same enviro but better spread, probs more weed imo (:
