Alright Barack Obama supporters, now what?

I agree with the idea of giving Obama a chance. Every new President deserves that, right?

I believe he will have to track center to start out with. He better come out and say something quick about tax rates on business (meaning a delay of raising them), and he better do it quickly. The market always is a reflection of the future, not a true snapshot of the present. He better say something.....:-?

Just because a candidate says something, doesn't mean it'll get done (privatizing social security and reforming the tax code, anyone?). McCain definitely lost my vote when he said he wants to build 45 nuclear power plants, and cut taxes at the same time (when insurance companies won't touch nuclear power plants, they have to be subsidized by the government). Where would they put these plants, I know I don't want one in my state :(
We've got to get our electricity from somewhere. Burn coal, the atmosphere get fucked up. Build dams, people complain that their houses will be flooded. Put up wind turbines, people bitch that they're "ugly monstrosities" and grind city council meetings to a halt with their bitching. Build nuclear plants, everyone complains that they don't want them in their backyard.

We've got to do something though.

I believe it is a good thing for your country and our world...
America was clearly headed in the wrong direction at a very fast pace...

Now if you were in a car that was accelerating towards a wall, you don't just lift your foot off the petrol, you try for the opposite and slam on the brakes...

Almost all of the republican policies and promises seemed to come down to just lifting the foot off the petrol...

I suppose the primary job function of any politcian, is postponement of the truth.
Just look at the reccecions being announced everywhere now... and people have been warning about this for long, while politicians tried to make out asif nothing was realy all that wrong...

I wish you good luck and a more positive change of regime than what my country saw... it started out realy promising over here and then changed into a shit storm and cronyism...

Everyone needs good luck in these modern times. Actually, what you have just witnessed is a country exchanging one form of cronyism for another, that's all. Unfortunatley what has slipped by most people is the fact that it was the democrats who sank the real estate market and then dominoed those effects through the entire credit industry. It was Government intervention in private markets that gave us this debacle. So guess what?, the folks that created the crisis will now fix it.....:spew:. The answer is now of course to create even more Government intervention. See the stock market and folks pensions? Wave bye bye.:hump::hump:.

If Obama creates a presidency based on Clinton domestic economics coupled with Carter's Foreign policies, This is going to be a long four years. I wish Obama luck. Let's see if the Democratic Congress chews him up like they did Carter. Good luck indeed. :peace:

Fixed. Not even the hardcore conservatives are advocating less regulation now, just a few hold-outs here on the fringe.

ANC - true, although I suspect that whatever the current president says anymore, people believe the opposite. The guy has below a 50/50 on being right on important issues, so I guess this isn't a bad bet.

I have no doubt that ALL politicians will run for the cover of the regulation umbrella. That does not mean it is good for the country however. Unfortunate Butcher bill is being created for down the road.

One need only look to France to see how nuclear power can work. I tip my hat to them.....

out. :blsmoke:
LYON, France -- French authorities ordered Friday the temporary closure of a nuclear treatment plant in a popular tourist region of southern France after a uranium leak polluted the local water supply.
But site operator Socatri, a subsidiary of French nuclear giant Areva, said it would permanently shut down the facility at the Tricastin nuclear plant in Provence as part of a previously-planned upgrade.France's ASN nuclear safety authority cited a "series of faults and human negligence that is not acceptable" when it ordered the closure following an inspection at the plant on Thursday.
Residents in the Vaucluse region have been told not to drink water or eat fish from nearby rivers since the leak on Monday night, in which 75 kilogrammes (165 pounds) of untreated liquid uranium spilled into the ground.
Swimming and water sports were also forbidden as was irrigation of crops with the contaminated water.
ASN said it would recommend to local councils that the precautionary measures remain in place for at least a week.

This is not the only one, there are more horrer stories about French nuclear plants.

Obama is building a coalition as we speak. Obama is a "smart" person, not seen for at least the last eight years in the oval office.

Most leading economists seem to think Barack's got the right idea. Oh right, but you know way more about economics than those guys. Of course.
can you provide a link to what "most leading economists" think? can you show evidence or are you just hoping someone won't want credible evidence?

Let's see... this guy won the Nobel prize for economics:

Then there's this one from THE Economist:
The threat of deflation | Depressing times | The Economist

And another couple:
Serious stimulus may wait - Nov. 18, 2008

Michael Bloomberg also knows his shit:
WNYC - News - Bloomberg Makes Case for Another Stimulus Package

Warren Buffet's been supporting Obama as well, and I read an article in Newsweek too, that I can't find online. I read a pretty good cross-section of news, and I haven't seen any pointed criticism of Obama's plan. Well, other than that a lot of people think GM doesn't deserve the loans they're getting, but this is about what will help the country, not what GM deserves.

Have you seen any strong criticism of Obama coming from anyone that actually understands macroeconomics through first-hand experience?

You guys will have to accept that the lifestyles you were accustomed to were non-sustainable... in fact we would need several planets to provide what you need alone pretty soon.

As a planet we will all have to humble ourselves a bit and rethink our disposable lifestyles... or we will doom ourselves...
Well this is true of alot of countries, but I believe you guys are pretty near the top...

You see the problem with the guys controling the economy is their age... they have very little to loose on average as they are unlikely to live through the chaos that will evolve in the medium term, and even if they do, they have the capital to relocate to whereever there is food and some security left.

The only economic plan which will pull us out to previous growth is the Milton method. Obama will not try it, he will meet with much less success. I am still seeing a train wreck.......hoping it is otherwise however. (fingers crossed).

Would you care to explain the Milton method? Maybe just the preamble. BTW, this is what I found on the Milton method, so you sir are a joke.
What is the Milton Method?
The Milton Method has been trusted by generations of mums. It simply involves soaking pre-cleaned items in a special solution to kill harmful germs. After soaking, items are hygienically stored and ready-to-use 'on demand' i.e. NO WAITING!

Maybe you meant this Milton:
Milton's radical, republican politics and heretical religious views, coupled with the perceived artificiality of his complicated Latinate verse, alienated Eliot and other readers; Samuel Johnson disparaged him as "an acrimonious and surly republican."
Sounds like modern republicans to me.

ANC - Hey, you Brits aren't innocent either. Sure, we drive more in the US because our country is more spread out and our gas is cheaper, but Britain gets 80% of their electricity from fossil fuels; we Americans only get, errr, 70% from fossil fuels. :p

Economists generally have children or grandchildren. And they've seen a lot. You can't generalize them and say they don't care about the future.

First, you gotta get some money...

Did you know I MISSED you when you were on that long vacation? Really, it's twue.
Why, no-one to harangue? I must say, I didn't miss anyone here. Although I do enjoy "haranguing", I was so engrossed in the Vacation that I didn't have time to miss this site, well maybe a little. Seeing the turning of the leaves was a great sight for an old desert rat., visiting a few of the monuments in DC, the Smithsonian Etc, Williamsburg, Seeing Rascal Flats in Nashville, exploring the Providence area and eating east coast sea-food, yeah it kept me pretty well occupied. Tennesee is a beautiful state. There are miles of small ranches, expensive beyond belief, but beautiful. I can see why Elvis wanted to live there. Went to an Island outside providence, about 6-8 miles long and a couple a miles accross. It was ringed with multimillion dollar mansions, lots of old money in the east. I can see why they kind of think of the west as those pesky upstarts, don't We know the real USA lies east of the Mississippi. It was fascinating, there is a whole lot of country out there. The only thing I'd do different would be to take less luggage, we were changing transportation so much it was a PITA.

I really don't give a shit who anyone voted for , or if they can even think of a good reason why. I DO HOPE that all American voters on this forum will send an email to Obama , and press him to join with Barney Franks and support the decriminalization of Cannabis , AND to write your states Senators , demanding that they support both the President elect AND Mr Franks. Isn't it about time for a CHANGE ? YES WE CAN !
