Many labs provide a broad panel of tests. It isnt just HpLVd.

This is no different than any other AG testing. The only difference being availability due the legal aspect. That will change and soon we'll be able to send off samples to our local Universities. We follow the same procedures and forms when testing our berries.

Labs dont operate for free and we shouldnt expect them too

Because some people are "right" fighters. I'm guilty of it too sometimes but at the end of the day, I'd rather be educated about a subject than "right".
I have no plans to ever send anything for testing. There are other more pressing threats than HpLVd and I don't test for those. This HpLVd is being blown out of proportion.

Test away but if I ever do run across this which is doubtful I'll just destroy all plants and seed from that strain and grow something else. It's a simple solution that is inexpensive and effective. Why anyone would want to continually test for something just for one strain out of thousands doesn't make any sense. Who cares if it's some so called legendary cut. Legends are made every day in the cannabis world. No strain is worth bothering with all this regular testing or paying a bunch of money for some nursery to provide you with their "Clean" program.

The cure is clear. Kill all plants and destroy all seeds. Grow something else and forget about it.

Another thing that hasn't been addressed.

From the DHN website.

"Strain Curing: State of the art tissue culture procedure to cure a strain of HpLVd."

Just what exactly are they doing at the cell level to cure the HpLVd? And wouldn't that be genetic modification aka GMO?

Thanks for posting that article. Tangerine can sigh at you but make some valid arguments for your own way of running your grow.

Read some of your other posts and understand that you grow from seed to try and preserve genetics. That is one way of doing things and I admire it. Your way limits vectors for pests/diseases (including HpLVd) to enter your garden.

Popping seeds and then getting the seedlings to become viable plants has never been something that I found hard, but it clearly completely confounds some growers. For some, purchasing clones takes that stress totally out of the equation.

Starting from known genetics is a huge consideration for some growers too. You don't buy into hype, which is fine, but a big chunk of people do and always have - no different from any other product. Purchased clones aren't going away any time soon, obviously. Clearly, people are willing to pay for clones that have been certified as HpLVd free too.

Your point on the testing for HpLVd and other potential pathogens (and the selling of clones that have been tested) being monetized is valid.

Having another tool to test and hopefully limit the spread of pathogens going into people's gardens is in my estimation a good thing. So is your method of carefully watching your plants and destroying doubtful stock - both meet the same end goal of growing and propagating healthy cannabis plants.

From all that I've read and listened to in podcasts, HpLVd infection is pretty widespread. The debate about whether or not this or other pathogens is a big deal or a popcorn fart looks like it will be backed by science.

It will suck if research really bears out that some cannabis pathogens can spread from seed. Likely someone else will monetize a test to be able to declare seed stock as 100% viroid free though.

I don't have a problem with people making money, although unpacking that discussion fully can happen in the politics forum.

Peace.

Tissue culture? You should be able to easily find a lot info on that.
Oh I can find lots of information on tissue culture. What I want to know is what DHN is doing which I never will because it's proprietary. But changing anything at the cellular level is GMO period. People go on and on about Monsanto and GMO but don't question what some cannabis nursery is doing.

This is one of their services.

"Strain Curing: State of the art tissue culture procedure to cure a strain of HpLVd."

What's next? BT Cannabis like Monsanto's BT Corn?

they do meristem cultures and the goal is to catch the newest growth that has not been affected by the viroid. May take a few rounds. It is very precise compared to basic TC.

Valid arguments and debate should be welcome. Its the posturing and dramatic assumptions that get old.

Oh boy. You know thats probably a bad idea, lol.

Anyhow, I'm gonna leave y'all to it. I got a big pot of seafood chowder to tend.
Happy growing all. bongsmilie

Meristem culture doesn't change anything at the cellular level

BTW this is another interesting article but not specifically about meristem TC technique.

I did a lot of reading today and this thread made me toss my SoCal master kush cut

All master kush crosses or bubba crosses have those fat leather leaves this one didn’t it was just darkgreen no leather .. it did root pretty good but it just had discoloration and for a while it threw 3 blade leaves until a few weeks ago even in flower it made good roots but the leaves on top kind of curled .. it curled like when u over water a clone in a tray I just tossed it and the cut ..

I read about dudding years ago and the most famous plant for it was “sour dub” there was a huge thread on it and the affects of hplvd since then it’s hasn’t been much talk this has to be like 2012 ? Maybe earlier .. I think it can be a issue but I’m still more scared of mites by far those things require a full break down and clean as opposed to hplvd

To summarize, the goalposts shifted from hop latent viroid not detected in any plant outside hops > not detected in cannabis > a long con by dark heart (all research funded by dark heart) > research funded from multiple sources but linked with nefarious dark heart, including the Nevada State AG Dept. > because I've been lied to before everything is fraudulent > detected in cannabis but not a big deal because other viroids exist > tissue culture to potentially rid a cut of viroids is GMO > *flips hair* "whatever I will just grow seed".

I caught up on this thread and it's been the funniest thing I've encountered all week.

I recall good growers being plagued by "dudding" plants many years ago. DHN cracked PCIA after years of anecdotal internet stories. Now we know how to protect ourselves. It's nice to have an answer.

Just a heads up, my buddy sent his white truffle in to get tested that he got from pink box clones & it came back positive for HpLVd. This is not the first cut I’ve heard of coming back positive from pink box either, I’ve heard of at least 2-3 other cuts coming back positive from pink box as well. I forget what the other cultivars were though. So, I would be extra cautious about pink box for the foreseeable future

Motorbreath #15 from pinkbox = positive

Hopefully vendors are at least aware of this thread and are able to come back here for reference. Sounds like there is a strong possibility some have it just from the anecdotal evidence. Similar to how @Applesauceisgood put it with how we first came in to realizing what was going on. Would be worth it just to run testing.

Out in CT we have everyone and their mothers(literally) popping up with clones. Going to be interesting to see how it is effected over here.

I think like someone else said, this is a symptom of the fast increase of clone sellers. I mean we used to trade on the forums no money was involved. And I'm more inclined to think that someone would back out on a trade if they had plant issues. But now there's money to be made, more people are inclined to keep selling.

Some of the vender pics for expensive cuts on strainly are laughable. The mother plants will look rough right off the bat and yet the person is still expecting hundreds of dollars for a said clone.

So quite a simple message to vendors of what me or any other experienced grower would like to see..

*Healthy pics of mothers- obviously we may be able to see symptoms of hplvd in those mothers. Multiple pics*
*Flowers grown from your actual current stock of plants
*Examples of rooted clones that you mail out
* and tests for hplvd and other pathogens.

I wouldn't buy a clone without any of those.. Maybe I'd consider it without a test if I could see various pics of mother plants in veg.

If you don't believe in it why are you still in this thread I don't understand?
This thread was for sharing experience and information but you don't have any info because you don't believe it exists, you don't have experience so I'm not sure what your purpose is?
What do You stand to gain from the denial? I understand that you are welcome to an opinion but you made that clear so seems you are whiping a dead horse at this point.

Do you buy clones from strainly or any other online vendor? If so post your experience with hplvd.

What are you talking about? I haven't posted in this thread since Tuesday. Today is Friday. The horse was dead long ago and I rode off on my Black Stallion.

I never said I didn't believe it exists. At first I said I was skeptical and then I said it's being blown out of proportion after spending several hours researching because nobody including you could point to any reliable scientific data.

No I don't buy clones off of strainly and I never will. I don't need strainly to get good genetics.

I have already offered a solution. Don't buy clones from any place that has tested positive. Destroy all strains carrying the disease. That's how you stop the spread. Not paying for never ending testing or having plants tissue cultured just to save some Bubblegum Raspberry Kush.

Why you chose to reply to me now I don't understand. I had already moved on from this circus. The solution is simple. Grow something else. It seems a concerted effort by many to make this more than it is. You all can panic all you want. Ignore a solution. Pay to have your plants tested monthly. Pay for the "Clean" program to rid some strain of the disease. Go ahead and waste your time and money. I'll just avoid anything from these contaminated nurseries and won't give it another thought. They don't have anything I want or need anyway.

Please don't quote me again in this thread.

Thanks.

This thread is to share and review vendors, clones, tests, so that we can collectively help to stop the spread of Hpvld and source pathogen free genetics online.
Kill all plants, destroy all seeds that came from infected plants. Avoid anything from places that have tested positive and move on. End of story.
