I was posting about this 8 months ago. BRB I'll get the thread.

Ok, I came across an interesting video and I would like to hear what your opinions on the subject are.
YouTube - Conspiracy of Science - Earth is in fact growing
I believe it
might be possible for the earth to grow because plants grow with just light, water, air and nutrients. If you have ever grown a plant from seed, you will realize that the plant becomes a LOT bigger than just the amount of nutrient matter that gets sucked in by the roots. As you might know(if you actually grow weed....*cough MM cough*

), you only need a very little bit of fertilizer to get a lot of plant material, respectively. The majority of the size comes mostly from water and air and your nutes are just like vitamins but the air and water are like the steak and potatoes(substance).
Anyways, I was wondering if the earths layers(you know the ones that a geologist can look at and determine what was going on at that period in time.) are like the rings/layers of a tree.
So, back when there were dinosaurs, the earths co2 content was like 10 times(don't quote me though) what it is today and has been decreased to the present day levels because it was turned into plant matter(and now its presently fossil fuels). So with the sun and the co2 being a catalyst, the dead plant material has raised the volume and diameter of the earth.
Just a thought... What do you guys think?

Approximately how much space debris actually hits the earth on an annual basis?
Do you think the earth could be growing and the plate tectonic "theory" could also be a factor too? Right? It could be a little of both

? HAHA
The reason why I speculate that it might be a little bit of growing and plate tectonics is because the inner core is liquid, and I don't think the addition of space material and the added dead plant material(as i proposed) would induce earth quakes and the such.
I think its fun to speculate things

HAHA Who knows whats really anything anymore... ~LOL~ HAHA

Ok, as we all should know, MASS AND DIAMETER ARE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS
. I didn't say that the mass is growing, but, rather I implied (for the most part anyways)that the diameter is growing because the plants have been harvesting co2, nutes and water and turning them into layers of soil, which take up more space than the elements that went into the dead plant(my uneducated speculation
). I gave the example tree rings. (I know that as the dead plant matter mixes in with the soil and then after many years moves down from the top soil, it compresses and would innately lose some volume.) My point being is- there are always new layers of top soil forming from the dying vegetation(seemingly like rings/layers of a tree).
"Mass is also not generally conserved in open systems, when various forms of energy are allowed into, or out of, the system"- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conservation_of_mass
But, after reading this clip from the latter link, I realized that maybe I should imply that we could be potentially gaining mass. Heres my argument.
As we all know, Earth is NOT a closed system! We get bombarded with energy in the form of radiation(visible light, UV, etc) all the time. So, if we use this formula E=MC^2 than we know this is a correlation between mass and energy(E=energy, M=mass and C=the constant speed of light which is equal to ~300,000,000 meters/second). Ok, since you can agree with me on this(I hope you can
) I will show you how we theoretically should be gaining mass all the time, even if its utterly diminutive. But at a constant rate, and over millions of millions of years, it might add up with enormity-if you plug in the correct numbers.
If you have taken one or two algebra classes you should realize the following. E=MC^2 or M= E/C^2 are equal. So to verbalize the second equation- mass is equal to energy divided by the constant speed off light squared.
And thusly, the more energy the earth harvests, the more mass it should gain, in theory anyways. So if you can get an accurate measurement/figure of how much energy is harvested by the Earth annually, you can than theoretically figure how much mass she has gained. Multiply this by the millions of years that the earth has been around, and there is your figure for how much added mass the suns energy has added to the earth.
I'm sure you can follow that email. Thats me using my imagination and not being afraid of being wrong
I'd be glad to hear a rebuttal on my logic. And if would be really cool if someone found out how much energy is being harvested by the earth from space radiation per year- Than we could really figure something out.
