Just think what it could have been if you used something that is made to line your walls and not something you cook french fries on. Plant looks good, but I can guarantee it would have looked better without the aluminum foil. Your next grow try out something else and see if your results are better, I can already tell you the conclusion you will reach. I wouldn't listen to that tea tree guy, he also thinks that CFL's are better than a 400 watt HPS using his charts and graphs and shit.
So, what you are telling me is that I should tear down the aluminum foil right away? You can guarentee that it would have grown better with out the use of aluminum foil? Is it going to really make that much of a difference? If it does, then I won't put shit up at all and use my fucking eggshell, off-white walls.

Does the aluminum foil also make the room hotter?

I only put the aluminum foil up there because I assumed it would help. I never really knew, till now, what it would or wouldn't do.

I really appreciate all the information.bongsmilie

You're talking about https://www.rollitup.org/cfl-growing/161775-220w-cfl-4x4-floor-plan.html ?

That's based on a plethora of CFL growers who report higher gram/total watts(kwh) compared to HID. Search, you'll find them. Not everyone is honest, mind you. The honest answers share a trend, though. But there are so many other factors also involved.

It's also based on the concept of a maximum of 16 plants(and a large unused closet). It's for small time growers that won't need 400W of power. Maximizing yield through the number of plants is the key to all commercial farming success. That's what the set-up does for the average joe. It grows a lot of plants with very little energy.

It's also a concept to help people understand there are better ways to do some things. Like in-canopy/side lighting, instead of using excessive amounts of reflectors, which probably aren't ideally used anyway(like applying them to flat walls, the angles suck, waste of time IMO). You want the reflectors at specific locations and angles for them to be truly valuable and effective. It could also just cause hot spots when done incorrectly.

I don't think you even understand the concept of foil when used for cooking. It's main purpose, besides making clean-up easy, is blocking radiance(light). It stops food from getting burned on the outside, from intense IR radiance, while staying raw on the inside(baked potatoes, for instance) by evenly distributing heat via it's metallic properties.

Exactly what makes it excellent for cooking it what makes it excellent as a light(radiance) reflector. It's even easy to crumple up, recycle, and start over if you fuck it up.

Out of curiosity... what's backing your guarantee? You seem to have the growing experience of a typical forum lurker.

yo man sweet plants you got there.and what??you are using tin-foil-that is usless-tin foil doesent reflect much light back-if you can , paint your grow room plain white or use some white materilas, like mylar.
keep up the good work mate...

Here are some pics of my plants. Can you post yours? Forum lurker lol that was a good one man

Sorry about that pic^^ there is some light bleaching, CFL growers wouldn't understand

Can you post some pics of your CFL and aluminum foil grow? You must have some killer plants if you insist on using aluminum foil and CFL's. Please post up some pics or shoot me a pm with a link so that I can see your plants and we can stop jacking this thread

If you had a properly covered wall than you would have gotten more outta your CFL's and the plant wouldn't have turned out so stretchy

Cool, cool. So I got a lot of strech going on? It sure doesn't seem like it compared to other peoples plants. In fact, there is one of your pictures that looks similer to my plant! Your pictures are bad ass too, really had some nice plants going on! You do know that I have cut off the fan leaves all the way to the stalk during the beginning of the grow as an experiment... Maybe that's why it "looks" streched, since there are no fan leaves in some areas. I don't know.

So, I will tear down my foil, I guess. It's not doing anything anyway, besides heating up the room. Thanks for the advice!!

I've seen strechy plants, and mine is no where near what those are... It's only a little over a foot tall, so it really can't be that strechy.

Yes I am sure that there has been stretchier plants but I have also seen closer node spacing while using CFL's also

Doesn't genetics play a part in it too? Couldn't that just be the way the plant grows no matter how the lights are? You're pictures show beautiful buds, but some of those plants are more strechy than mine. Don't get me wrong though, they are still beautiful, nonetheless! How do I keep it from streching?

Hmm... light box... cardboard box and aluminum foil lining it. DESIGNED TO GROW PLANTS?! Yes. From educators... of science, of course.

http://www.petapixel.com/2009/06/07/make-your-own-aluminum-foil-reflector/

The effectiveness of aluminum foil to reflect light(heat also transfers in the form of radiance) is obvious. A night/day difference.

Oblivious to reality you are.

What works equally well(aluminum foil reflector) for that cute plush doll's ugly shadows works for marijuana plants.

As you can see in the attachment, the far side(right side) of the plant looks nearly identically lit as the directly lit portion(left side). The reason is the aluminum foil reflecting well over 90% of the radiance.

Evenly illuminated plants are happy plants. Indeed, if you care to measure the pixel brightness of the two halfs(of the same node), they are always within 10% of each other(meaning over 90% reflectance).

All cameras do is perform as light meters, FYI. It's the sole function of them.

This was my last plant, which was way more strechy then the one I have now... Sadly, I accidentally killed it shortly after it turned female. I was adjusting the shelf it sat on and one of the poles detached and chopped the plant right in half, like a katana through a stick of butter. I was pretty upset about it, because it was my first plant ever and it had just turned female and the whole month and a half had been for nothing. Thankfully, my second/current grow turned female... I'm 2 for 2!

Here is the picture of my last girl. RIP

Hey fennimore what picture are you speaking of that I posted where my plants are more stretched out then yours? Please post a pic of your plant that shows that mine are more stretched out. And teatreeoil, where are the marijuana grow links that used tin foil? The only pics I saw in those links were of teddy bears. I want to see a MARIJUANA GROW USING TIN FOIL! Not just one pic of a plant with tin foil on the walls. I made my own thread about tin foil and no one can seem to find a link...? Hmmmm maybe they are having just as hard of a time as you are finding one...

Here is what I was talking about... It is strech central around that area. But like I said, very nice plants. Even nice plants can have some strech.

Tin foil hasn't been popular since the early 1900's.

No one uses it, and it's not easy to find, either.

Yes, the links aren't easy to find. Most of them result in fucking idiots making bullshit claims about aluminum foil to no end. :cuss:

Systematic disinformation, if you ask me.

Lol that is not stretching man. I picked off those lower budsites to promote larger upper buds. I didn't want popcorn nugs I wanted only main colas. You obviously have some learning to do if you think that is stretching. Check out Mblaze's grow, He is a member here and does the exact same thing to produce huge buds. You clearly have some learning to do so go to the growFAQ and read as much as you can. Here is a pic of M Blaze's plants, do you think these are stretched out too? Please know what you are talking about before saying that my plants are worse than yours.

Dude... I didn't know... Remember, this is my 2nd plant ever. I was only wondering and hoping to get an informative answer back. I'm sorry if I made you upset. I do have a lot to learn, and I wasn't trying to act like I know what I was talking about. I just wanted to post pics of my grow and get information about other experiences. You have been nothing but helpful to me and I appreciate it. You got any more info? Is it possible to make big buds from the plant I got right now? I'm not using any nutes at the moment.

And why are you saying it is worse than yours? I know yours are FIRE, but is mine that bad? I just want to know if I am on the right track.
