What human food can be used in growing?

Hey everybody,

I have access to tons of different "foods", which would come to me at a much cheaper price than any specialized "nutes" i could by (and i mean cheaper like, 100% cheaper.) It's my understanding there are a variety of products harvested or created for human consumption that can be used at different stages of the growth process.

My question to everyone is, what "food's" do you recommend, or use, For what stages of growth, and why?

For Example: Molasses for the last 4 weeks of flowering. Coffee Grounds, I think i read something about eggs, or eggshells, etc.

Thank you for your opinions in advance.

Google Jack's Classic nutrients - I use the All Purpose (20-20-20) for veg and flower, and the Blossom Booster (10-30-20) for flower - they work great, and are a fraction of the cost of other nutes.

Coffee grounds are high I N, but I would test the ph of it, cuz I'm pretty sure it is kinda acidic. I think you should just fork up money for some cheap organics like Alaska fish, or something. If using food, it needs to be composted anyways. You can't just dump stuff onto your plant. It will get gross.

Maybe everyone replying here didnt read my post. I didnt ask you to plug your favorite nutes.

I dont think people compost molasses and coffee grounds before use. Someone please give me something useful and not regurgitate what I find in these posts on the site.

And the arrogance of some of the people on this site is ridiculous. Maybe you should fork up some money and buy a fuckin muzzle. Im not in the position to be buying ANYTHING for growing right now. HENCE, why i asked about "foods". Im not talkin about old hamburger meat or vegetables.

No one composts molasses, maybe liquids, maybe grains, maybe i dont know thats why im asking for opinions on a specific subject and not a sales pitch on nutes.

You could compost the food and use that. Herb needs specific amounts of nutrients and micro nutrients at different stages of growth.

Just putting coffee grounds in the soil won't cut it.

If you can't buy a thing how are you going to grow?

Really, 6 bucks is nothing for some nutes, that's as cheap as your gonna get.

And you must be mentally handicapped. oh boy its not possible to grow plants without buying anything.

I grew my last plant with CFL's I already owned tap water and a bag of 1 dollar soil. Tried some miracle grow i already had once, but didnt use it any more than once..(which im going to try on a few of the plants im starting.)

It wasnt great, but It got me niiice and high.

Now, someone gave me a 400W MH. Im fortunate on what I have, but im growing so i can smoke, and not spend money, so please, keep the shit IM NOT ASKING FOR to yourself. Do you really have to chime in and comment on something I wasn't asking for. Is it that hard for you to sit idle?

I prefer silence over incorrect or off topic answers to MY QUESTION.

Since I don't see anyone giving you anything other than attitude and snide remarks, I'll just regurgitate what I have learned around the net, but I have no experience using it myself.

Quotes stolen from elsewhere below:

When I needed magnesium, I ground walnuts in a machine and added water, then foliar fed

Many bloom formulas are derived from magnesium sulfate. Epsom salts is magnesium sulfate. Seems to really help keep the leaf green during the flower period and its easy to get and so cheap that it won't break your budget. I got best results just using it as a supplement in conjunction with my fertilizer. 1 table spoon per gallon is considered half strength and will not burn plants.

(That's all I got, good luck with your grow!)

Maybe if everyone is too snarky here... instead of under the "Newbie Forum" maybe under "Organics" they might be nicer.

*shrug* Bunch of jerks as far as I can tell....

Well of the various food groups under consideration I can only speak for black strap mollases. I dumped 2 capfuls in a gallon of water and drenched some in veg and kilt them all. Now I have dumped the same amount on some close to harvest and it worked ok. I gradually worked my way up that figure. My last bout with it I flushed for 5 days at the rate of 1 T. per gallon. Couldnt tell it helped them any. Did not not make it taste like mollases. Now here lately I have been too lazy to flush at all and it makes the heinous herb smell like cat piss. You ever had any which smelt like that? I think its the urea in the N. Still knock off your knickers. The smell gets better over time etc. I cant believe all these turd heads giving you bad and unsolicited advice. I feel your pain bro.

I have been sprinkling used coffee grounds around the top of my soil all through out the veg stage and my plant seems to like it.
I have not checked the ph from it tho, but i have read to only use coffee grounds that have already been used because unused coffee grounds will be too acidic.
Another point with coffee grounds ive read is a little goes a long way.
Hope this helps, and is more what your after =P

um stale beer has micro organisms in it that help break down the stuff that's in your soil already so its easier absorbed it also has carbs in it that the plant can eventually use for food

Dude you should chill people telling you about cheap nutes is for you to know in case you can afford it. I know how it is to be broke and wanting to help your plants. The old sayin you get what you pay for is mostly true better nutes better bud not always price its whats in it. A cheap or free way to nutes besides food because there is not alot of stuff about food and nutes would be maybe borrow some from a friend that grows tomatoes or something. I think when people give a shout out to cheap nutes it is to HELP your overall grow you shouldn't be so harsh because people didn't do exactly as you said. This is for the most part a cool community its helped me out tons. You are new here don't be a dick trying to get info from here that shit isn't cool. remember more flys with honey not vinegar

banana peels have potassium, and eggshells contain phosphorus and calcium and act as a ph buffer like dolomite lime would, epsom salt for magnesium, your own piss could be used for nitrogen but you would want to dilute it, I would suggest making a worm bed you can put in organic matter and non printed paper products and they basically make quick compost of it, one pound of worms will eat something like a pound of food every hour and double in population every three months so you wont have to wait too long.
