why don't people have fur?

you ever worn jeans for a while (like almost every day for several years), youll start to notice less leg hair and slower growth on the back of your calf. clothing/evolution
several people due to genetics, minimal hair growth mom/dad, would yield a minimal hair growth child most likely. as it progresses the gene that causes hair growth is lost, if the hairless/hairless traits are still bred. evolution
this sounds like the most likely reason

So you are telling me Neanderthals wore jeans?

I think they wore animal skins too.. just not as well fasioned & made humans took it. which is one of the many reasons they could not compete. Humans made more advanced weapons & were better organized socially I believe

I am sure among the dozens of species of ape-human like man from neandertal(sp) to all hominids & on..some were covered in fur/hair. :}
I could be wrong but I am sure over time, evolution would work things out, such as if humans were covered w/ fur.. & still used animal hides & furs for clothing, that would not be so great in the long run hygine wise. Having a body covered in fur/hair invites pests, mites, bacteria of all sorts to live on us with ease. But I guess it really depends on the enviroment & time we are talking about, obviously man was smart enough to make clothing & tools so full body of hair was not needed. The apes are obviously not smart enough to work that out so they do better off fully-furred :) but you see how they make grooming a family hobby.. >.<

cats have fur and do a fine job of keeping themselves free of diseases.

humans invented showers and personal hygienic products . if anything evolution would create thicker fur due to the fact that we have EVOLVED to the point of being capable of maintaining such fur.

you simply rubbed your fur away. ;)

Decades/centuries of covering your body with animal furs & hides will do the job.

we started covering our bodies with the fur of dead animals because we were FREEZING, because we were designed without fur, for some reason. :?

how is losing our fur evolution if the first thing we have to do is refur ourselves?

Neanderthals were not, :} Just like Hominids, there are over 20 Species of Up-right two legged walking species of Human like apes we have Fossil evidence of, All looked human, like cave men.. some big some small.. but they were not humans.
Neanderthals were the early humans.

When we "started" doing it though, maybe we had fur.. and still smart enough to make clothing? I am not saying that is now it went, but back then we did not have trimmers, so even our modern humans got pretty hairy..

hehe i wonder if i wear super thigh undies over time my balls will be free of hair... Ahh the simple things in life.
if i wear tight tube sock it rubs the hair off the back of my calves.

i wear socks because my feet get COLD, because i have no fur on them. :(

?? uhh hehe Yes they were . Look at the evolution time line. Neanderthals and homo sapiens same time line. Intill Neanderthals disappeared which still cant be proven why.
Neanderthals were almost identical to homo sapiens except no forehead, which a lot of archeologist say that it the reason they didnt not survive. Couldn't make common sense decisions.
Thanks to differential evolution we are who we are today.
There has been many bipedal species, but im referring to the skull evidence.

We are self regulating but this falls between two extremes, cold and hot, generally under 15 celcius and we feel cold and over 25 celcius and we feel hot. Whales dont need jackets for the freezing seas because they are self regulating to different extremes i.e. under -20 and they feel cold and above 0 and they feel hot.

So you see we can only live in certain habitats whereas a whale would probably die if the water reached 25 celcius so to say.
