Agreed. I have done sog and for a confined space its the way to go but if Im going to get busted for a hundred plants, It better be worth it

Most of the people that work at hydro shops would not know how to grow lawn grass much less real grass. Fuck them, if it works for you then do what works!

Keeping mothers in dwc, those girls are going to blow right up and probably out grow their space. On the other hand, if you plan on having new cuts in the room every ten days you might get away with keeping them in dwc, probably not, but maybe.

lots of silly assumptions here
with very large plants i would employ some kind of training which would reduce the vertical height of the plant
this would reduce the need for 12 ft high ceilings LOL
my ceiling is 9ft 8" high
this plant below was 8ft high bent over to 5ft high and 7ft wide .. yielded 21 oz or 600g
lights are less than 12 inch away
when you slither around on the ground like a worm are you still 5ft tall ?

i coming up on 1.5 g per watt(tyring to get 2.0) running sog in soil/less semi organic,co2 enriched,dual spectrum, its all about practice knowledge and the perfect environment.
right now im harvesting perpetually 3 rows of 7 3 plants every week or 2 1oz+ a plant 800w MH and HPS. 21 plants 1 gal pots 2x4x4 area, between 2-4 weeks veg time. SOG is where its at efficiency wise.

It's really about the height of the clones and how many in a sq M. I do SOG.
Clones need to be 15-20 cms for 12:12 depending on strain (more sativa less height). This way 16-25 plants can go in a Sq M and each could achieve an average of 20-30 g per plant depending on set up, lights, medium etc....
Advantage is - fast, save extra few weeks on seed starting, all look the same which means same food, conditions etc.
Reliable, if you have good Mum then you will know what it produces. Also, less chance of contamination from other grow rooms.
Cheap and self - sufficient.

Like almost everything here there are people who follow blindly and will fight to the death for something they have no clue in or even tried, just do what works for you. I do a lot of things people "frown or hate" on but they work wonders for my plants!

hey i work at a hydro store and i can def grow some nice green grass lol.... but for the most part you are correct most hydro workers have a limited knowledge on different cannabis grow set ups.. if your growing peppers they might know something if your lucky

It comes down to space bro. If all you have is a small 8x8 closet then you can run a scrog setup and harvest 16-27oz every three weeks. Each rack would have 6 plants, each three weeks apart in the flower stage. Every three weeks you harvest one rack. You always have a rack in veg waiting to go into flower. One out, one in. Each plant produces 1-4 oz. depending on the strain. You can expect to harvest 12-20 LBS. per year.
If you have a basement or spare bedroom you can run large plants. In Oregon we can have 4 patients with 6 plants each (in one house). That means a total of 24 mature plants at any one time. We can also have 18 small plants per patient.
With a basement setup running 24 plants you can harvest 90Lbs. a year! That's why large plants rock if you have the space. Strains play an important part. Sour Diesel will produce 20oz. while OG Kush will only produce half that! All the info is in my new book. http://www.harvestapound.com/

One small note about cats running the counter at a hydro shop- if they really knew what they were talking about, they'd be running a highly productive grow op, not running the counter at a hydro shop for minimum wage.

Agreed. All the guys that work in my local shop grow but they are pretty amateurish at best. The best knowledge you can get is generally found from the experienced growers here.
My local hydro guys couldn't get past week 5 with any of their aeroponics grows so they STRONGLY advised me against doing it. I just finished week 6 and it's never been better.

I am not employed by anyone but me. I DO have a 'business' account with my hydro supplier, so I do buy at wholesale prices (which are not 'cost' prices- supplier is still making a profit from my purchases), but I am not employed by the hydro shop.
Anyone can set up a business acct with a supplier, if they'll agree to deal with you on that basis. Some may demand you spend a certain amount of cash per month/quarter/year/wotever, but many just require you provide a tax ID number or something. The latter was the case for me.

First off understand one thing & that is 99.9% of all hydro shop employees are not your friend,mentor,teacher ect,nor is their supposed grow advice to be used,their mission is to sell you goods & equipment,even the salesmen who use big words & sound to the layman grower to be highly experienced should not be listened to,ive personaly found that most employees of hydro shops only know what sales & marketing videos,literature & rosebud magazine ( AN marketing gimmik ) has taught them.
Ask yourself one question while listening to those hydro shop experts & that question is this,if their growing experience is so great what & the fuk are they doing working at a store for minimum wage instead of tending garden full time ?
However in your case i think the advice of a 2 week veg time is spot on & i will explain why,in order to have a sog where per plant harvest weights are acceptable the plant needs to be approx 8 to 12 inchs tall before starting the bud phase,another reason is the node structure of the plant.
The whole idea behind sog is to cultivate one single very large cola from each plant,if the clone used was not large enough & node development isnt enough you could end up with very small colas instead of the monster colas sog will yeild.
The way to assure a large size cola at harvest is to assure the clones used are of size & if they are too small then allow for a short veg time to allow growth & node development.
My advice is for you not to go sog your 1st time at bat for several reasons,every grower should be familiar with all stages of plant growth,they should watch the entire process from start to finish,including a veg period,this saves hundreds of questions later on,its one thing to know how to do something but its another thing all together to know why to do things,thats the experience that can only be gained by 1st hand experience.
Growing sog the 1st time out isnt your best bet.
