I used a smaller cooler and took a 2 liter soda bottle and cut the bottom off. Just enough so that the bottom stays round. Then I drilled a hole in the top of the cap and glued a socket piece in there. Fill up the cooler.... and you have a killer g bong:joint::hump:

the easiest and fastest thing ive done was pvc. i used to work at a surfshop and was the only one there for like 8 hour shifts and i came across like 50 4ft long pvc pipes one day. i ended up with four pvc bongs by the end of the week. real easy to make. drill a slanted hole for the female, used a hollow sharpie for the female, a metal spacer with this weird bolt for the pull out and used surfboard epoxy repair kit to seal up the base of the tube. then took grip tape and cut out designs for a little grip/aesthetics. they hit like champs but i felt like a cheap bastard using em so i just gave em away and kept with glass. gravities are this shit though. easy to make and easy to dispose of when they start to smell like dead fish pussy.

I was just thinking about building a new bong.

I figure I'll get throwed then walk around Home Depot for an hour or so. Is PVC ok to use for bong building? Will there be any harmful substances released by the lighter flame/smoke pulling through the tube? If not I'm definitely gonna do something with PVC since I don't have glass drill bits.

What about metal for bowls? I've heard copper and stainless steel are safe for smoking, but those are the only ones I know of for sure.

Lastly, what works best for tubing if I wanted to have multiple hoses coming off?

to be honest ive heard pvc isn't healty if it gets heated. but i only hit them a few times. you should google it and see whats up. i already had glass so just did it to bullshit a few hours at work. as far as i know aluminum is the only really hazardous metal to smoke out of. once again you should google your shit

Are PVC pipes safe to smoke from?

I think the notion that PVC bongs are unsafe is dated and inaccurate. I did a literature search on PubMed and read many of the investigations and reviews written on the safety of PVC devices. In fact, PVC is used for blood-transfusion bags, nasogastric tubes, and artificial airways. The studies done on the safety of PVC indicate that absorption of very high doses (milligrams per hour for weeks) of PVC and plasticizers can lead to histological changes.

PVC is stable enough in heat to be used for pipes for hot water (even in health-conscious Europe). Bong water and water-filtered smoke are not nearly as hot as this. The organic plasticizers not tightly bound to the PVC are lipophilic, and would not tend to dissolve in bong water or smoke.

Perhaps this rumor got started because of the fact that when PVC itself is combusted, toxic carcinogen- and irritant-containing smoke is produced. But as long as the bowl and stem are not made of PVC, none of the PVC will be heated significantly, much less combusted.

I stick with my original contention that plastic pipes are not clean, health wise. The plasticizers mimic the action of sex hormones at very small concentrations, rather than high doses. This does cause deformations and cancers to human organs and cells.

In a recent report entitled "Sick of Dust, Chemicals in Common Products" by the Safer Products Project (OpenDNS. org, Tel. 718-805-1056, POB 153, Spring Brook, NY 14140) results of tests on household dust showed that most households were contaminated with six or seven powerful chemicals. One group, the "organotins" are used as heat and light stabilizers or "plasticizers" in PVC products such as tubes and pipes. They are released from the plastic upon heating. Here is what the research organization said of this class of chemicals: "Very poisonous even in small amounts, disrupts the hormone and reproductive system; toxic to the immune system."

You mentioned that the plasticizers used in PVC are lipophilic. That means they dissolve in fat and can build up in body tissue.

Plasticizer release from burning and heated plastic is the main problem. The point where the metal bowl meets the plastic pipe is a possible heat site. There are also accidents when using all tools. We have all seen partially melted pipes. These definitely suffer from plasticizer release.

Convincing enough arguments on either side but frankly I think I'll just get some glass drill bits.

why the fuck would you get a glass drill bit. the only bit that can drill into glass without cracking is a diamond drill bit. just buy a fucking tube and quit being such a half ass stoner.

Chill the fuck out.

There are drill bits. For drilling glass. They're called glass drill bits. Crazy, I know.

Take exactly one half of a children's Tylenol if your pea-sized brain can't understand this, I know it might be confusing.

I'm asking really simple, peaceful, non-threatening questions. I'm not insulting your mother.

Why, I ask, do you feel it so necessary to give such useless answers that really do nothing but spread ill-will? Do people in this community really want responses like that to rather simple questions?

Honestly. What sort of self-respecting stoner is actually an asshole?

i honestly have no idea why i am being considered an asshole. i am actually respected on this site. while my response may have not been favorable to you, in my research as a "self respecting stoner" for the last 15 years, there is no reasonable situation to spend more on a glass drilling drill bit than a nice tube. all glass drilling bits have a small, if not extremely tiny diamond bit on the end. i am suggesting that you have begun your tenure on this site as being a dick. go ahead and continue your reign of prickness and i hope you get accurate responses. may your next grow fail miserably you dumb prick.

No, thebot, you were being a complete ass, and pretty ignorant too. A glass drill bit is a fundamental tool in glass production bongs. They can be purchased for under ten dollars. Frankly, a glass bit, a nice liquor bottle, and a downstem is probably one of the cheapest quality waterpipes you can make.

Also, glass bits they do not have a single small diamond on the end, they have thousands of tiny diamond particles embedded into the material.

Now chill the fuck out and quit overestimating yourself.

THE LUNG!!!

picked up the idea in Canada from some concordians :)
check out the growfaq, i'm too lazy to describe it.

In short, it's a gravity bong w/o water.
Cut off the bottom half and attach a bread bag and pull.

"homade bong ideas to share?"

Post title. Peaceful enough.

"I have about 7 homade bongs that all work to perfection...pass on succesful homade bong ideas that have worked & ill do the same"

Author's first post. Again, a peaceful request for bong ideas.

"the easiest and fastest thing ive done was pvc. i used to work at a surfshop and was the only one there for like 8 hour shifts and i came across like 50 4ft long pvc pipes one day. i ended up with four pvc bongs by the end of the week. real easy to make. drill a slanted hole for the female, used a hollow sharpie for the female, a metal spacer with this weird bolt for the pull out and used surfboard epoxy repair kit to seal up the base of the tube. then took grip tape and cut out designs for a little grip/aesthetics. they hit like champs but i felt like a cheap bastard using em so i just gave em away and kept with glass. gravities are this shit though. easy to make and easy to dispose of when they start to smell like dead fish pussy."

Your first response. Informative and hilarious -- "dead fish pussy" made me point at the screen and laugh out loud.

"I was just thinking about building a new bong.

My first response. Your method appealed to me because I happened to have a 4 foot tube of 1.25" PVC next to my desk, so I'm just trying to figure out what is safe to smoke out of. I can't figure out if I said something in that post to piss you off.

"to be honest ive heard pvc isn't healty if it gets heated. but i only hit them a few times. you should google it and see whats up. i already had glass so just did it to bullshit a few hours at work. as far as i know aluminum is the only really hazardous metal to smoke out of. once again you should google your shit"

You're right, I should google it. So, with that in mind ...

I googled it. I found this response, complete with multiple opinions. I came to the same conclusion you did and simply stated that I'll be purchasing some drill bits for popping some holes in glass. This is where things get a tad confusing from my end.

"why the fuck would you get a glass drill bit."

First off, this seems unnecessarily boorish for such a harmless statement. I'm REALLY sorry if I offended you when I declared my intent to purchase drill bits suitable for glass. I suppose this just isn't the way I would address another persons innocuous statement.

Then there was this:

"just buy a fucking tube and quit being such a half ass stoner."

On a scale of 1 to 10, where would you rate this on a "nice" scale? I hate the word nice, it lacks depth entirely, but good god I just can't give this statement more than a 3 on the "nice" scale.

Consider it from my end. I said this: Convincing enough arguments on either side but frankly I think I'll just get some glass drill bits.

And got this: why the fuck would you get a glass drill bit. the only bit that can drill into glass without cracking is a diamond drill bit. just buy a fucking tube and quit being such a half ass stoner.

I honestly felt like this was a pretty unmerited response. I know you're respected, that's excellent and I respect that, but honestly man, do you really think that was a friendly, welcoming response? Do you really want that to be the norm for a response to new users on this forum, a forum for those with a penchant for harmless law breaking and peaceful cultivation?

Whatever. I apologize for coming back so harshly.

Any objective observers have an opinion here?

your absolutley correct, I was being an asshole. I was shitfaced last night and probably most of this shit I said about drill bits was just fodder to an argument. It was completely uncalled for and I apologize. I'm a dickhead when I'm drunk but there's no excuse for that. To be honest I only vaguely remember posting that, still no excuse though. Welcome to roll it up and may you not have to deal with douche bags like me too often. You can probably tell when the liqour kicked in, about the time I went from being reasonable to being a dumb shit. Sorry man

No worries man, we're all human.

I'm gonna try and build a multi-chambered glass piece, anyone have a suggestion for a material that would work well to connect each part? Rubber stoppers and smaller glass tubes is what I'm planning right now but it seems there are better ways to connect pieces of glass.

liquor is something you consume when your on probation and can only get high a few days a month. 3 months until I can rid my life of alcohol. As far as connecting glass the only thing besides rubber I can think of would be expoy putty. It works great
