they are praying for more light
growing towards the light.
Nope, there is something in sunlight that artificial light cannot replicate.
I'm curious as to why you think this only happens under natural sunlight. I'm running a 400w hps and I see it all the time.

Ditto with Mistik on this one, the process is called phototropism and as far as I know every plant does it. You'll not be seeing it indoors as the light is usually stationary and directly over head. The plant is not following the sun about the sky but the leaf still reach up and try to touch the light.
At that point the issue will change from prayer to sacrifice ... cn
The plant is doing it has nothing to do with the light source. Its angling its receptors toward the light just as we place solar panels for optimum absorption so does the plant.
Then let's disprove my theory that natural sun will outperform any artificial lighting...I'll ask you to kindly re-read what I have done previously posted as per link. Those plants are currently asleep for 6 hours. If I were to move those 42W CFL's to the approximate angle of the current sun, I already know the plants will NOT respond the same...despite twice the amount of hours spent under those simulated lights.
There are no lights that can replicate the real thing, there's just something there we can't produce.
