Magnesium Deficiency?

Hey there RIU, I'm doing a single plant grow of nl#5 from highgrade-seeds. Things started OK but situation has deteriorated over time.

Set up: A 38 by 15 inch tube, all white inside(flat white). Lights are 3 26w nvision 5500 cri(about 4400 lumens per square foot. 2 liter pot(small but on purpose) with Miracle Grow Moisture Control. Doing veg at 24/0 light cycle. Ph'd the outflowed water at around 6. Started with tap water that ph'd at over 8, but have used distilled with 1/8 tsp epsom salts for last 2 waterings.

I think I have a magnesium issue, but can't seem to get it under control. The pictures below are last 3 snapshots in time at 18, 16, and 14 days. any hope for salvage?

epsom salt amendments are 1 teaspoon per gallon. they look like they're drooping, which could be over/under watering. i'm not a fan of miracle grow, so i blame that for whatever problems you're having. i can't see your pics well enough to say.

Silky,

I did 1/4 tsp to 1 quart water, so that should be the same proportion. Pictures are not great, but I don't seem to seeing any droop.

Some people seem to have luck with MG, others don't. At the moment, I'm one of the ones who don't.

that sounds good with the e.s. ideally, the leaves should look like they're reaching for the light. it looks like they're kinda laying there. that does happen though, near the end of the light cycle.

Much appreciate the help! The leaf look I was crediting to the indica traits of this strain. That might just be my newness to growing an indica though.

Honestly bro, it looks like nitrogen deficiency, but with MG.... shit; it could be just about anything. Could be too much of something locking it out or bad pH buffering.... and it's got those osmocote time-released nutes, so I doubt it's going to get any better for you.

Yeah, it's not looking great. Nitrogen deficiency with MG seems uncommon. If nothing else, MG loads nitrogen in time release form. Usually the concern is nitrogen burn. At this point, don't have much to lose except time. Experiment with salvage till the sucker drops dead. Maybe learn a little.

Sounds like a good time to learn hydro. ;-)

You could always transplant.

I had to use "Miracle Grow Moisture Control" in a pinch from home depot on two different grows. each time i got terrible results.

you can chill with the transplant, one thing is for sure many of us here hate MG way loaded , you should flush flush flush, 3x water to pot volume....check your PH homey before and runoff....i used soil and i have moms in soil and i prefer to flush off the bat so i have better control over what the plant takes up, another of my faves is botanicare's cal-mag, always good to mix it in with your regular food, or when you straight water...it has extra N, cal mag and iron...nice supplement for vegging

I haven't seen any other soil that seems to vary as much for grows as MGMC. Lot of negative, but quite a few positive. How can the same damm stuff work so differently?(rhetorical question)

from those pix i cant tell so good, but i believe your having PH issues, with MG it has mostly everything the plant needs, its too early to get a mag deficiencie, you gotta work to get that, but its no work at all to have your PH lock out nutes

one MG soil i had good results with and HOME depot definitly has it, MG organic choice, only thing i didnt like was it has a ton of bark in it, too many stiks...try to find a hydro store or order online and get some fox farms , better yet get a soiless pro mix and add nutes sooner than just letting the plant feed off the ferts in the soil

morrisgreenberg,

Good sanity check. Now that you mention it, I didn't see any plants near as young as mine with this problem. I had been watering with tap which was hard. Over 8. Been using ph test solution which only goes from 6-8. Was worried about the acidity of the MGMC. Last 2 waterings have been distilled with epsom salts. Was hoping the epsom at least wouldn't hurt. trying to counter act hard water. The ph coming out seems good though, around 6. best estimate though
