Newb's Own First Grow - AK-47s

Hey all. What was a mild curiosity, is now I think my new hobby. I'm 8 days in (from seed) of my first grow. Right now I'm testing the waters, playing on a budget before I invest into something I suck at LOL. Through this grow I will be adding more essentials, a little here and a little there... so please... please dont slam me to hard!

Here's the basics:
Closet
Hydro (soon to be Deep Water Culture)
Flora Series (Micro, Gro, Bloom)
4 AK-47 seeds (from hermie)

Lights (for now):
4 - 42watt CFLs (2700 lumens each)
18/6 on timer

After 24 hours in a wet paper towel under a bowl, the 4 seeds all sprouted very well and I placed each in a pre-soaked rockwool cube and placed the cubes in a pot under the lights.

Day 3: All is good, 3 broke ground... err.. wool and have starter leaves. 4th is still coming, think I buried it a little deeper.

Day 7: A bit nervous because I was gone a couple days (had looked after), but all look well. New set of leaves, and the "runt" has broken, just trying to loose inner casing of seed.

Names: In a tribute to MY favorite gun-wielding babe, I decided to name each of these AK-47 (what I HOPE to be) girls after Jolie characters :) Expect me to refer to them by name from now on...

Day 8: Sway lost the rest of her seed, working on opening. And while fiddeling with my CFLs, one went dead!! So, I said f-it and I ordered my 150watt HPS from e-cono... anybody know how long it should be to get here?

Okay, thats my first post to my first grow! Hope to stick with me and help me along the way.. I need it!

Day 8: Lara is also getting a small yellow spot on her leaf. I did start using the flora series with the seedling mixture (on the bottle)... did I use nutes too soon I wonder...

I would hold off on any more nute treatments for a little bit. Glad to see a fellow ak-47 grower, scribed 4 sure bro.

lmfao, nice names
How much did you spend on your set up?

So far, around $100, but I haven't gotten the pump and airstone for the DWC, my HPS is on its way, have to get emergency blankets for the walls, still a good bit I need all together.

Day 9: I thought these "girls" were getting of to a great start, now I'm not so sure... Lara and Fox are the tallest at 1" and Lara also has her yellow spots from the nutes the other day. I am giving them now just pure filtered water.

They are only on THREE 42watt CFLs now (one broke yesterday) until my HPS comes (dont know how long)... will they manage until then??

Is there a chance for a comeback with these girls???

I would replace the CFL if possible. A single 26 watt CFL is $6. 42 watt is $9. I was going to say with the four 42 watts it would be enough light but I think only three wouldn't give you optimum results. I use two 26 watt CFLs per plant during veg from seed until flower. Plants are plenty bushy. Any less I think would be pushing it though.

The yellowing, although unclear in the pic, is almost for sure overnuting. Those are still a bit too young for nutes right now. Next time you water pour plenty of extra water through to flush out any nutes left in there.

for one wat are you doing giving them nutes? there barely sprouts. how much do u plan on spending on the emergency blankets because if its gonna cost you just dont buy them since your closet is white already. you should have bought the 23 watt cfls. those are more efficient with lumens and less costly. as long as ur cfls are 6k color then they should be able to grow. keep ur cfls about a foot away from your sprouts to.

a 26 watt cfl cost 6 dollars? you can get a 4 pack of 23 watters for 12.

Thanks for the advice! I do have a couple 23 watts around, but I wasnt sure if i should since the light would be a little dispersed uneven (2 42s on one side and 1 42 and 1 or 2 23s on the other??) And yeap, I got the lights about 2 inches or so, maybe less.

For nutes I just followed the back. In a gallon of water I put in a 1/4teaspoon of all three (Micro, Gro, Bloom) and just pour what water I need out of the gallon jug. But I have gone back to flushing them out with regular pure water.

I'll try and rig up my 23s on there now.

So I'm not f-ed?

Yes, a single 26 watt CFL costs $6. And keeping your CFLs a foot away from your plants is not good advice. Three inches max.

lol...you dont know what your talking about bro...first off fukin menards sells 4 pack of 23 watters for 12 dollars...second just because your growing with cfls dont mean you keep them close as possible...lol at 3 inches max...your a fukin idiot. 3 inches max? so whats the minimum 1 inch..so he can fukin burn out his sprouts to death? the minimum distance is 4 inches bud.....and im giving "bad advice"

ur 3 40 watters should be fine to grow but if you see them stretching in the later stages add more. dont use nutes at all right now. if you fuk with them to much they will stress and turn male. do you have a hood arround your lights?

So much hostility. Let's see some pics of what you do with your CFLs a foot away. This is what 3 inches does for you.

I just rearranged the lights a bit. I have 2 42s in the center and 4 23s on the sides, gives it a little more juice I guess.

No hood, thought I'd wait for the HPS so I know what to get... how cheap is one or is there a do-it-yourself hood?

M.J.... is that from the lighting set up you mentioned? Those are BEAUTS!! I hope mine are 1/3 that good...

Right, that's two 23watt bulbs per plant. Sorry for posting pics of my plants in your thread but it really aggravates me when someone questions my experience without knowing anything about me.
