Check rapid led for anodized heatsinks. Looks like they have skinny and wide versions. Not really familiar with any others, just remember seeing them there before. Wouldn't really worry about it unless going passive or for aesthetics. It's interesting seeing the new designs they have,i just made a diy version earlier today messing around

Not as experienced as you but I have some doubt's on the rapid led design.That top cover is going to reduce effectiveness of convection and radient transfer.
Also I agree that forced air is very effective compared to cooling.
I wonder if anodized surface layer interferes with thermal transfer between LED and heatsink

It'd be a good topic for a new thread. I don't know much about it personally. Hard to say without doing a Tj test to see if there would really be that big a difference

The larger rapid version looks to be made to be air cooled. Even has a cutout for the fan. Not sure I love the overall design either.. It is priced pretty good
