I guess it depends on which borer he has. Everything in that picture leads me to think the branch will be fine. What has he got to loose by waiting and watching?

Very likely a corn borer. They often lead to bacterial/fungal infections from the frass they leave inside the stem.

    Borers

Not sure if it's corn borer or squash borer, probably don't matter as far as treatment, the patch is surrounded by corn farms, they rotate crops to soy beans every other year.

I haven’t really heard of hemp borers being in Oregon.

    Storm damage,insects or something else?

That's kind of the way borers look. The fan leafs start to wilt with the rest looking OK. Look for the stock to start turning brown and maybe a small hole at a branch. If that's what it is you may need to harvest that part of the plant early.

    Borers

How do you guys deal with them? They seem to get worse every year at my patch. I've come to find out they come from a moth that lays eggs that hatch to larva..which corkscrew into stem and destroy plant.

This summer I want to grow a huge plant outdoors. Advice?

...work, providing support, having to use a ladder to check the plant, more water. The upside is that they deal with most issues really well, stem borers for instance, don't even faze them! I can pop seeds in April, put them outside directly in the ground June 1st, and they can easily be 10 to...

Stem rot that moves to the whole plant thats what he has to lose I have seen it I cant believe you do nothing about stem borers. I have tried the spray BT in the hole an slice the stem open an remove the borer its useless I just cut 2 in below the hole an move on.

Bacillus thuringiensis is acommon biological agent effective on many soft bodied garden pests like squash borers and bud worms on your cannabis. The other thing sounds like an analgesic for your sore fingers after trimming!

    Storm damage,insects or something else?

It's not borers, If they kill a limb it will yellow first. Lots of plants around this year with dead sections right about week 3 of flower. I had it in the bush on plants in holes not deep enough or amended well and lost moisture.

Good call, I didn’t. I hacked away about 6” below the affected area. If more problems pop up I’ll look for borers.
