you are better off i think. I ilke the htg light because it has a glass lens over the bulb which helps keep the heat down a bit and just seems a lot safer than having an exposed bulb. For my HTG 250 i run between 6 and 10 plants but i'm using the sog method.

don't use sugar water, i've tried the blackstrap molasses and it seemed to help, maybe a little more crystals. Do that if you want in the flowering stage but plain sugar water will prolly just fuck your shit up.

i tried one of these mushroom grow kits several years ago, not exactly this brand. The shit went pretty good but some minor problems toward the end fucked it up. Knowing what i know now it should of worked i just made a small mistkake. You have to be real carefulabout the enviroment and temp.

I work at HD. I never seen a 400 watt hps. I did score adeal on some 100 watt hps fixtures with bulbs for $17. They were on clearance and were original $79. I never seen anythiung bigger than 100 watt.

How many people change their bulb every grow? I think every year is good for 12/12. HPS are supposed to have a longer effective life.

I haven't tried every kind but I was using fox farm grow big, big bloom, and tiger bloom and was real happy. I switched to ionic and real have been impressed, it's cheaper and the pot tastes better.

You got 3 square feet of space. 4 85 watt lights would be 340 total watts. Thats over 100 watts per square foot. I would say 3 max but 4 would be too many. 50 to 80 watts per square foot is what i know.
