DIY : Making your own Metal Core Printed Circuit Boards for led applications .

Great thread SDS. I've found in the past that adding transfer foil on top of the toner/black paint marker before dropping in the etching solution really seems to help with the process. Once you have your toner transferred, you repeat the same process with the green foil (iron, lamination etc)...

    Ghetto Labs: DIY Spectrometer

Brix is sugar content in liquid, used in brewing? I had to look it up.

Ghetto Labs: 1wire to rule them all

The graphs are now running in Zabbix now. I'm pleased with the amount of customization that's available, they have turned out very pretty :)

    Ghetto Labs: DIY Spectrometer

I spent the day building my own version of Public Lab's Spectrometer today and was rather pleased with the results. They have very detailed instructions for hacking together a make-shift spectrometer with nothing more than a broken DVD-R, a webcam and a Home Depot electrical junction. Once you...

General COB or Bridgelux Vero 18 cooling

Keep an eye on this seller's auctions. He usually has a few good deals on scrap heatsinks that are perfect for this sort of stuff.

Looks great. Wago Lever Nuts are the greatest thing since sliced bread, glad to see someone else using these little gems.

    DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

I'd be super worried about the thermal properties of that Ideal holder. If you look at the datasheet they show a picture of how it mounts. The COB ends up atop the holder, leaving what looks like a pretty large air gap between the LED and whatever surface you attach the holder to.

    Ghetto Labs: Lamps

3 Week update: All-in-all things look good. The reds have been on since week 2. PPM was bumped to 1600 today, which seems too high and is causing some taco action. We're going to give them a day or two to see if they adapt, otherwise it will have to get backed down. C99: Sour Cream...

    DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

I'm really excited to see this all coming together Supra. I have to admit, that huge tray of 3070's made me really jealous :D Can't wait to see those pigs fly.

    Ghetto Labs: Lamps

I think you really hit the nail on the head here with regard to the costs of DIY vs commercially available lights. While materials aren't cheap, you can still save quite a bit of money overall by building things yourself. What a lot of people don't take into account, is the costs of acquiring...

    DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

Thanks for the answer. I dug into to the datasheets last night and came to the same conclusion. Even running that 3070 at only 700ma, Cree's luminous flux graph puts it in the neighborhood of 40%, based on their 1925mA control testing. This nets somewhere around 3500 lm compared to the middle...

    DiY LED - Cree CXA3070

I can't for the life of me figure out why you're running such huge chips at such a low amperage. If you're only throwing 700mA at that cxa3070 (which maxes near 2800mA), wouldn't a CXA1520 or CXA1820 be a better choice? Hell even a CXA2011 should be out there for half the price of these...

    Ghetto Labs: Lamps

So far so good. Stretch is minimal, node spacing averages less than half of an inch so far. Nice short stout girls. Redlight district coming soon. We expect to kick on the 630nm and 660nm in another week or so.

Ghetto Labs: 1wire to rule them all

Although this all isn't LED related, we hope you still enjoy it. We don't just spend all our time building lamps. Ghetto labs is chock full of homemade electronics that end up getting purpose built to fulfill our monitoring and control needs. Sometimes we do this because there isn't something...

    Ghetto Labs: Lamps

Went ahead and kicked the 3 misc girls over to flower tonight. They're not trees by any stretch of the imagination, but we're eager to see how this new light works out. They'll see nothing by 3000k and 6500kish light 12/12 for the next few weeks until it looks like their stretch is over and...

    Cree and Bridgelux comparison

The uno and your power supply need to share a common ground on the inputs of those meanwells and the outputs need to be isolated to just the leds each one drives.

    Cree and Bridgelux comparison

Anything that makes ~5v 1Khz PWM signal would work and they can be stacked. Arduinos are a great choice for this role.
