    Yes your on the right path there is no way to determine what the plants are using. Some people recommend topping off with PH water only.     I just ran out of PH Down and ended up getting GH down. Ironically I get .07 shift per drop per gallon( 14 drops a point PG). My ph has been very stable since I've been using it. Just curious hydroton or rock wool?

    For the chlorine I add a dechlorinator slightly less than what the manufacture suggests, and let the air stones knock out the rest. If you don't want to buy the dechlorinator just add airstones to your holding container. Should only take a few hours VS a day.
