I was growing 12 plants with CFLs then found a great deal on a 400W MH setup and threw that sucker over the plants....probably only about 3-4 inches from top of plant to bulb, and they LOVED the new light. CFL doesn't even compare to what a good HID will do to a plant that is ready to take off...

Any chance I can get away with just replacing/rewiring the laundry room panel? How many amps can the main handle consistently? At most 2* 6.0 Amps for the 600's. 10 for the 1000 IF we get it, and 4 for the 400, so 26 amps at a time + a few for a fan?

First off, gotta say thanks for all the helpful advice you are giving everybody on RIU. I live in an area where marijuana is quasi-legal and every so often you hear stories about people setting up 6KW+ grows in their houses without getting their electrical stuff in line and it never ends well...

You should have no problems doing 6 plants in a 4*4 for $700 if you live in an area where there are medical growers...if your in a state where medical use is not allowed, I am going to guess that finding quality used equipment is much harder to come by. DIY hydro system, aeroponics...

What types of lights/cycles are you using? What are your reasons for wanting to remove the feeder tubes? Also, how tall are your plants after 4 weeks of vegging? 40 F is really cool for a plant, it definitely would like warmer temperatures, but if it heats up during the day to 70+ you might be O.K.
