1400 hps w/co2 & a/c

here we go with a new journal and new room.
the list of stuff i will be using.
1000hps
400 hps
2 6 inch aircooled reflectors
window a/c unit
co2 tank w/regulator

this is in a sealed closet 4' x 4' x 6.5 tall.
the plants i have so far are
2 blue mystic a month into flowering under a 400hps.
1 bag seed girl that was abused hard me trying to learn how to clone.
1 clone from the bag seed.
these 4 are planted in mg soil, i don't need advice from the mg haters.
6 blue mystic clones in a bubbleponics, i took these girls in flower and now under cfl 24/7 trying to get them back to vegging. fem seeds from no w on? i've had bad luck with cloning.
2 northern light, 2 weeks old, in coco
3 more northen light and 3 hindu kush in the germanation phase. nothing sprouted but they are in coco after sprouting tails in paper towels.
2 papaya seeds still in paper.
i'll get some pics up after lunch. this will be an open journal. all comments and suggestions are welcomed.

2 northern light and a bagseed clone

the plants in soil have been getting the fox farms 3, the ones in coco have been getting the canna feeds part a & b. i've never grown in coco so if anyone sees me needing guidance don't hesitate to suggest something.the ph in the soil has been 6.1 every feeding and the run off measures the same. the coco is down to 5.5. i need some more mylar to make more panels. real simple to do. still waiting for 1 reflector and the regulator to get delivered, should be here tuesday. can any of you think of anything i may have missed?

the temps have been staying in the low 90's with just the 1000 hps humidity is staying close to 45%. i can crank the a/c down and bring the temp to what ever i like, or what ever the girls want. the top of the plants are 3" from the lights. it's been awhile since i last wrote a journal. trying to answer any questions before they're asked.

3 of the 6 blue mystic clones had what i thought a strong enough root system to be transplanted from the bubbleponics to coco. i took these clones when the mother was flowering, i've heard it takes a bit longer to get them back in veg stage? can anyone tell me? they will be outside until i think it's time to go into the 12/12 closet.
the 2 papaya seeds are breaking open and showing a tail. into some coco they will go later this afternoon.
out of the seeds that wer'e germanated, 1 northern light and 2 hindu kush have broken the coco and can now be called seedlings. yeah!!!
i've never have killed one once it broke ground, but my germanating skills still need work. i may have it down this time around. i'm shooting for 100%, if i get it i will use coco for the germanated seeds everytime.
the blue mystic are doing great, just getting fat. not much of a smell to them. the one bagseed that is flowering with them has a strong fruity smell to it. a friend said it smelled a lot like a sangria wine. if it taste half as good as it smells i'll be a happy smoker.
i'll get some pics up later. if anyone has any suggestions let me hear them.

heres a couple of pics, the first is of the 2 blue mystic and the sweet smelling bagseed is on the right. i noticed a small bit of light bleaching on the upper fan leaves so i lowered them a few more inches. i've got them 8" from the lights. the silver in the back is a 4' tee square. the plants are in 1 foot pots.



at the very bottom are the 3 blue mystic clones, the next 3 round pots are the 3 seedlings, the top 2 square pots are n.l., and the bottom square pot is the clone from that sweet smelling bagseed.

i'm going to pack that closet, i have some white widow and jock horror fem seeds coming from nirvana. thinking about germating 2 of each once they arrive. nirvana is where i got all my beans.

nirvana came thru with the seeds i ordered today. took them a week to the day. +++rep if i can get them to germanate. 3 of my germed seeds aren't doing anything yet. more dead beans. and i feel confident in my method. i let the seed soak in water until it sinks, usually an hour or 2. they go into a damp paper towel until they grow a tail then off into the grow medium they go.
i also stopped at the local grow shop to buy some canna boost, rhizatonic and pk 13/14, of course there are no prices on the shelf but i'm thinking a franklin will more than cover it. holy cow!!!! it was over $200!!! how important is this stuff? will the a&b canna mix give me good results? the guy at the shop said he used all suggested feeds and really didn't see any benificial outcome for the money spent. he said to just feed equal amounts of the a & b through out the entire grow. and not to worry about everything else. someone please shine some light on this subject for me.
everything else is looking great. i cranked the a/c down to see what it could keep up with, had the room down in the low 60's with just the 1000 lit up, so i'm sure it can handle cooling 400 more watts.

just my luck, putting the 2 papaya in coco this morning and dropped one of em and couldn't find it. i scattered a couple of buckets of compost over the area and watered it in. maybe i'll find it in a few days.
is anyone else using just the a & b canna feed with good results? someone let me know whats up. if i need all those high dollar additives i'll go back to soil.
ups just showed up with a co2 regulator and a 6" air vented hood. time to go to work.

got the co2 regulator hooked up and the feed tube mounted right above the blower on the a/c. the new reflector is hung but i still need to run the venting for it. 1400 watts is a lot of light. the 1000 will be the olny one in use until i have more plants ready for the closet.
i put another blue mystic clone in coco this afternoon. i'm going to take at least one mother plant. now that i know that you have to have the mother vegging when you harvest clones.

and on the top we have 2 northern light to the left and 1 bagseed to the right. the 3 of them are showing good growth.
next row are the 4 blue mystic clones. they finially starting to grow, real slow.
bottom row 2 hindu kush and 1 northern light.



the other 2 northern light and 1 hindu kush never broke dirt yet, dead beans. still waiting for the 1 papaya, and i put 2 jock horror and 2 white widow in coco plugs. the heck with all the crap of putting the seeds in water, then paper towels, then into the grow medium. from now on they go straight into dirt. in the regular vegetable garden i don't need to take any special precautions with those seeds and my success rate is way higher.
as far as feeding these plants in coco i'm going to go with the canna a & b stuff and if i need some bloom ferts i have a closet full of stuff that i will usee before i spend $200. that's insane!!! someone throw me a bone?

Hey kevin... did you put a link to this in your old journal? If not I bet a lot of folks are wondering where you are.

I'm glad you lowered the lights from 3" off the 1000w. That's too close. I would guess 6-8" to be the absolute minimum distance. Light bleach will happen for sure.

Re vegging flowering clones can take a long time. I think it can be 14 days before you see anything. Then the new growth just springs from within the old bud, all frankenstein looking.

About the addidtives, if you don't like spending money, I wouldn't get all that. I bought the full range of Dutch Masters stuff, and while I don't feel that I wasted any money, I do feel that my grow would have been just ever so slightly not as good without. What I am trying to say is spending $200 on additives may get you some more yeild, it probably will not make things Twice as big, or double your yeild.

Some of the additives seem expensive but area really dirt cheap, like my Dutch Master zone, only calls for 1mL per Gallon, so the liter bottle will last me forever, even with my big old 30 gal tank. And I use gravity. $28 for a tiny 8oz bottle, but again, you are only called to use it one time in a grow and only use 1.5 mL per gallon. So that too is cheap as hell. Other's I use a lot of and don't think there is any difference. I think I'll skip those when I run out.

went out there to feed the blue mystic and bagseed and i found rusty leaves, so i got some straight water ph'd to 6.5 and flushed them, the run off was good from the start. i've been feeding 4 teaspoons of big bloom and a couple of tablespoons of molases mixed to a gallon of water since flowering. i think they may have been getting to much co2, i had the regulator set on 1. it is now set where the ball is barely floating above the seat. my timer will be here next monday. maybe i should shut it off all together until then.


hey jigfresh, thanks for the info, i just kind of freaked out when i heard the price. i should know by now that there is always cheaper ways than the mfgs suggested ways. i love using coco so far.

How is CO2 affective with a window ac unit ? do you have to shut the unit off when the CO2 is on I thought the room had to have no out vents in order to run CO2?

hey jackmayoffer, the room is completely sealed.
and the portable a/c unit isn't adding new air it is
cooling the old. does that make sense?

after looking at the girls this morning i think i need to
raise the light. i'm so use to having that 400 right on
top of them.

i'm rethinking my 1400 watts in the 4x4 closet. it may
end up being 2- 4x4 closets, 1 1000 for flowering, 400
for vegging.

redid the closet again, i took the 400hps down. the 1000hps in a 4x4 area is more than enough. i also moved the plants as far away from the light as i could. i drilled a hole so i can run the ballast on the outside of the closet. while i was at it, i insulated the vent tubing for the lamp. between the ballast and the venting i was releasing a lot of unnessicary heat in the closet. the a/c is not working near as hard as it was and the temps dropped into the mid 80's from the low 90's. with lights off the temps are in the high 60's, i don't expect this to change. i'll get some pics up later.

Good work man. I think I'm going to insulate my exhaust ducting as well. I'm inspired. I'm way too lazy to move my ballasts to the outside.

i just took some r-12 batting and wrapped the pipe then wrapped it with duct tape



2 of the 5 seeds that i have in the coco plugs have sprouted.

seen big improvements in the blue mystic and bagseed, just a bad sunburn. the light is 24" or more from the top of the plants. i went ahead and turned the co2 back on, just barely floating the ball on the regulator.

the blue mystic and bagseed plant are looking much better tonight. just 1 grow with no problems, is that to much to ask for? lol

i love these coco plugs for starting seeds, 5 of 5 sprouted.
