Hi guys, I'm doing a small grow with about 200w of cfls, my plants are growing fine with that at the mo, but I only just realised they do smaller hps' don't want to get more than a 175w maybe cause I'm tryin to keep costs down. Does anyone use these? And is it worth getting one for flowering? Are they better than cfls? Thanks

i got one in my closet right now. 100 times better for flowering. but run half the cfls or even all and the 150 watt HPS. more light the better. flowering requires the most light if you want nice nugs. but if you want the super dense nugs you gotta look into some CO2

get a 250w and compensate by removing cfls, if you feel you must, in honesty it is not as expensive as you think, i think. Adding my 400w hps and running it 24/0 and 3 98w fans added at the same time made my bill go up about $10 a month or so, well worth it, a 250w or 150w would be even less. cfls dont even come close to hps, it utterly destroys them. unless you dont have space or something your always better off with the hps, it gives you alot more bang for your buck, for the 400ws my 10 40w cfls use i get 27,000 lumens. with my 400w hps i get 55,000. i was using 900w of cfls before i got my hps and when i got the hps it was incredible how much better it did. worth every penny, my only regret is/was that i didnt switch sooner.

i was wondering the same thing. will a 150w HPS do well for 1 plant in a 1.5' deep x 2.25' wide x 6' tall cab???? i have like 2 or 3 bulbs but i need the ballast :/.. i know that where the money is spent. but what about a 175w MH??? i heard they do well for flower, not as dense of nugs but better res gland production than HPS... any insight would be great.. thanx guys.. sorry for the forum jack

yes. the way the hid bulb lights is similar to a CFL. but CFLbulbs have a mini-ballast built into the bottom of the bulb. it's something to do with the electricity, not too sure what but you need a ballast.
