This is my first grow with HPS, just set up my new cabinet and have been vegging with CFLs. How far from the seedlings should my light be? I have a fan blowing between the light and the seedlings my temps are in the high 70s low 80s. I want to keep streching to a minimum. What is the recommended height for HPS? Thanks!

what do you have for ventilation. if your temps are high 70s low 80s with cfls you gonna be closer to high 80s to mid 90s when you stick that hps in there. and thats no good

Thanks for the responses, I should have been more clear. My temps with the hps are high 70's low 80's. I will snap a pic it will be more usefull. This is my Cab with 2 seedlings and the ventilation, the other pic is 2 more seedlings vegging under floro.

If you had a cool tube you would be fine. Is the intake and exhaust both from your room? if it is you should crack a window to keep the temp down

HPS lights are more intended for the flowering stage, not vegging. You would want an MH (metal hallide) for veg. But to answer your question about height, the best thing to do is put your hand right above the plant and feel the temp for yourself. If you don't wanna leave your hand there, your plants don't wanna stay there either.

thanks for the replies. The cabinet is in the closet so opening a window is not an option. The door is always open, I might stick a fan in the entrance of the door way to pull air in from the bedroom. And the topic of using HPS for just flower is growers choice, there are many growers using just HPS the full grow cycle. I guess ill keep at it and let you know how it goes in the next couple days, my plants seem to be happy for week and a half old babies.
