250 hps, how close?

I have a 250 hps, vented reflector, exhaust out the top, and a glass lens. My ?? is how close is too close? I can hold my hand against the lens and it doesnt burn. Also I have a fan blowing on the light.

I dont have any of that but a fan blowing.....and i have it around 8-9 inchs away with no signs of heat stress......

what exactly are the signs of heat stress, if you dont mind? i think i may have it...

I have mine 4 to 6 inches with no problem. I have no glass just a standard reflector and an oscillating fan blowing between the canopy and the bulb. With your setup wheelerman I bet you could be touching.

Good question. I have the same equipment and was also wondering the same. I would have thought that a hps would have to be further away??? maybe not. ill have a look around.

Well here is an update, I have had my light at 7-9 inches, No visible burn or stress so far, Also i think i could move my light closer, like i said in earlier post, I can hold my hand on the glass lens for 15 mins with no burn. feels just like a cfl. So...I guess I answered my own question.....Anybody else have any thoughts on this?

i'm wondering really myself. i have a 250hps and have pushed the light about 13-15 inches from the plant. they are 3 nodes old and the light is a diy vertical setup with the light coming out of a 4in. duct being exhausted out the cab.


. . . .i will bring the light closer and push one plant to 7 inches and i'll let you know how it goes.
