5000k or 6500k for vegging?

Just curious if there is a big difference in using 6500k or 5000k for vegging?

Right now I am using a few 23 watt 6500k CFLS.

I have been looking for 40+ watt CFLS and all I can find are 5000k spectrum, if I use this will this be a problem?

Thanks

Higher the better. Although.. higher, the HOTTER. Careful! I'm vegging 2 seedlings in a pc case w/ 3 23's @ 5500 with 3 high volume fans and the temp still got to 91 this am. I yanked a bulb, so now 2. :) Neither seedling stretched at all, though. Both are very stocky and healthy. Stretch should indicate not enough light, so.. I bet you're fine in the 5K's.

6500k is the ideal, closer to natural light. 5000-5500 is the more common available so is usually a lot cheaper. It works, just not maximizing efficiency. To site an example the hrtilix metal halide 1000w costs about $80. The 6500k is like $180+. Marketing ploy? Maybe. But I noticed the same pricing structure for cfls as well. I personally use 5000k 1000watt, and a lot of them.

I think it's impossible to make an argument that there is a difference between the two. nature doesn't veg at 6500k. And you can veg fine with an hps and it's a lot redder than that. Focus on the other factors and that 1500k won't matter a whit.
