A question for Potroast

Hey Roast,
I have a question for you. I have 5 plants going in a hydro garden which are going into the second week of bloom. All of the plants are looking great except one plant that has a few wilted leaves along the lower part of the plant. All of the other plants are doing fine with no signs of any wilted or discolored leaves. What I did notice on the problem plant is there seems to be a soft area along part of the base of the stem. The plant still has great growth but a few wilted leaves. I'm relativly new to hydroponics and I do not have any meters to measure PPM or PH. Do you have any suggestions on how to avoid the possibility of losing a decent looking plant? I'm going to try to take a pic that will have enough focus on the prob and submit it shortly.

Sorry to but in, but you're going to need a ph pen and an ec meter if you want to grow hydro successfully. I doubt even the mighty potroast will be able to help you for long...

Although it sounds to me like you have mould, through bad circulation. A decent ph pen will cost you around $45 inc. shipping.

Yeah, Skunk is right, even though he can't spell mold, that your problem plant has some fungus, called pythium, and referred to as Damping Off. That will be tough to recover from, but you may be able help it with a fungicide spray and medium drench. Neem Oil solution may work.

And to grow hydro, you really need a pH meter, or at least a measuring kit. You can do without the TDS (ec) meter if you measure nutrients well and change the res often, but the pH stability is important.
