Well summer is back and my room is getting into the upper 80's and my 8 in blower is not enough. If I were to hook up a portable ac for the hot days wouldnt the cold air just get scrubbed into the attic. I have a central air vent in my grow room and i was spending about $150 a month just to run my central ac. My guess is it was just blowing the cold air out the exhaust.

I am having the same problem. I am going to run a closed loop to fix the problem.

Yes you are correct .you are just dumping the cold air out on your air exchange rate ,the only thing you can do is cut back on the exhust fan ,either by adding a damper, or fan control, or get a little more involved with ading exhaust duct and recirculate it back in to the main area of your room (not grow area) or household where the a/c return is . and or do a recirculation duct with a fresh air bypass setup let say 20to 30 % of fresh air mixed back in on the recirulation duct.
