Airstones

hi all, i was just building another dwc unit and purchased two 12' airtones the long stick type ones that dont float, this is the first time ive used this type, and iwas wondering when i filled it with water, and changed the water, when i came in contact with the stones they became really soggy, and crumbly, and actually they broke into pieces with little force applied.. my question is is that how they are? should i just be more fragile??? or did i just buy some old crappy ones? any comments would help thanks i will be posting my journal soon when i start i will be looking forward to any opinions =]

I use the cheap walmrt air fizzer and they work good me just have clean after every hrvst.The air sticks i stay away from to fragile for me.tryed them before

I had one of those 12" green ones, and mine started to "shed" those little green particles and it got all over the bottom of my res. Got rid of it, and bought the 18" air curtains from WalMart. Fits right inbetween the two notches on my bubbleponics and works great.

If you get one of the ones that float, you could tie it down with fishing weights but be careful that they are not made with anything that could harm your water. TBH, I'd get the bubble curtains if you think they will fit in your tank, makes a huge curtain of bubbles.
