alright well i think i figured it out. its saying find the GFC. numbers are 14x,21. i think i got it, but i wasnt sure. im thinking its seven right? i think ill keep this thread open throughout this semester if anyone cares to be of assistance and it would be greately appreciated.

Yes it's seven

nah, i might sound stupid but i havent been in a math class in a few years. and i apologize if it sounded like a joke. i dont find me striving to better my education humorous. math doesnt come easy for all of us.

In math classes show your work. Math the devil is REALLY in the details LOL
So the answer for full credit should look like:

14 = 2 x 7
21 = 3 x 7

GCF = 7

you coudnt do that mentally????

find the biggest number that goes into the two???

3 doesnt work
4 doesnt work
5 doesnt work
6 doesnt work
7 works
8 doesnt work...

maybe I was a calculator in my previous life because I just gotta look at two diff numbers and can tell the GCF instantly lol!

240 and 600.... would it be 120??

you coudnt do that mentally????
......snip......

You know that is very cool you can do that. I always wished I could do stuff like that but no, not me ever. How far did you go in math?

The point isn't being a natural at math, the point is understanding the algorithm you have to go through to get the correct answers for all us non math savants. But I do love meeting the guys who can do it naturally.

Should you start at the top?

Start at the bottom and factor out 14...1x14, 2x7, and thats it. 1, 2, 7, 14.

Then start at the top and work back on the larger number. 14 doesnt work, but 7 does.

And for 240 and 600 it would be the same. What are the factors of 240?

1x240, 2x120, 3x80, 4x60, 5x48, 6x40, 8x30, 10x24, 12x20, 15x16

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, 16, 20, 24, 30, 40, 48, 60, 80, 120, and 240 are the possible factors. Then you work backwards on 600.

240 no
120 yes

You don't have to get all the factors, you can eliminate each step as you go and will have the largest common factor

I just read the word Algebra and want to bust out in a damned fit. Math sucks. Not all of us can get it. Lucky you if it comes naturally but there are a whole lot of us who don't. I wish you the very best, I just dropped out of some classes because I need to take a refresher math course before attempting it again.

FUCKABUNCHAMATH!!!

I've spend a lot of years working on lathes and Milling machines and can convert decimals to fractions in my head, but I always double checked with a calculator before I took a final cut.
