Anyone here live in New Zealand?

A buddy and I have planned to move to New Zealand in exactly two years. But the drug laws are not very informative on the internet. At least as far as I've read. Him and I are fine not doing drugs at all however that probably won't be the reality so I have a few questions.

1) is there medicinal marijuana?
2) what kinds of substances can you get over the counter? (Psychoactive: Dxm, opiates?, codeine even?, ephedrine? Etc..)
3) opium poppy cultivation? Or just growing for the flowers? ;)
4) which designer drugs are actually legal with their designer drug reform regulation laws?
5) is Kratom able to be grown and cultivated? Kava kava?
6) which drugs exactly are illegal? Especially under the analogue act?
7) what are the criminal charges?
8) how common is drug use exactly? Is it easy access like the states where it is easily hidden?

Obviously psychedelics are illegal so I have no questions about them.

This is very exciting for the both of us, we plan to buy a house, have jobs before we get there..
Also I was wondering about education costs, I've heard it is much more inexpensive than American schooling and in which case I plan to follow a physics and paychology degree.

We are going to have a massive garden, we already have a lot of money saved and a lot more within the next couple years. We plan to grow our own veggies and fruits and have a stocked lake filled with branches of water off of it as irrigation and we plan to build solar panels out of fun and learning. Possibly a little far fetched however this will be done over the course of a few years of settling and getting used to the new culture.

I also would like to know which town would be nice, we would love to live within a mile of the coast and have it be somewhat cheap. Predominately English. However we will be doing lots of traveling.

We are just very excited about this and are trying to figure this all out and is absolutely appreciate it if someone on riu lives or has been there enough to know this knowledge. And if you do live there I'd love to have an acquaintance! Someone to guide us and make friends with!

I really appreciate any help givin. :)

Well like I said the traveling won't happen that much until after we're settled, have careers blah blah blah so that's a couple decades down the road from when we initially move there haha

We just want to see some of the world ya know? And New Zealand is great for growing our crops.. I'll have some very relaxing leisure time so I'll get a lot of reading, meditation.. Quiet time stuff done. Once we get there we'll see how it's really gonna go, that's just our goals:)

Have fun in Colorado man, I haven't even been there since before it was even a medical state. Thanks for the hope!

But awh:( that sucks man a lot of girls get homesick. I'm not even messing with any more relationships until I get out there for that whole reason really.
Fortunately or unfortunately depending on how you look at it I have no love right now so... I'm free as a bird.

I don't mind not doing them, beer is fine with me. Kratom I know is legal and that's all I really need too. And who's to say an occasional joint will get you into much trouble anyways?

We don't plan on getting in trouble, going there is not for the drugs it's for the experience. And the quiet atmosphere.

Have you ever been to New Zealand? What are the laws? Please elaborate. Maybe have some sources?

Im from australia but new zealand and aus have pretty similar laws, a slap on the wrist for possession. I haven't been to Nz myself but kiwis love weed and it should be easy to find. Also theres a lot of Meth there, if thats what floats your boat. Haven't met one person who doesn't like New Zealand , good luck!

heres a funny drug driving tv commercial.

Its not really a slap on the wrist for possession over in NZ. Yea there's heaps of meth - called 'P' over here and it's ruined heaps of lives. The police will do what they can in general to prosecute you even for ridiculously small quantities. But all depends on the policeman obviously they vary person to person and depending on the area of the country. Up north of the country it's generally more lenient in regards to green.
In saying all of that the stats are that something like 4 in 5 people here have smoked by the age of 21...so it's fairly common anyway. Not the same league of quality as in Colorado and Cali now though - Can't say I'd be moving this direction if I were there. Wonderful country. Shame about the politicians in power, but then, it seems that way with almost all countries huh. Our scientists all know that weed should be legal and have told the government this multiple times, just that the people in power have vested interests, in U.S.A, alcohol etc

I read in another forum website that the further south you go the less tolerant they are about marijuana. Is that true??

Where are the "weed" hotspots in the country. Just curious. I would like to visit someday. And if I'm lucky, and up for it---Live there too. :) :leaf:

As far as 'hotspots' go..tough to say as its all pretty hidden away generally, being illegal etc. Far up north is fairly chill, however don't expect not to get charged if you get caught...you just might not get in as much trouble up north as you would anywhere else. Hopefully this will change in the next couple years ;)
