Are the specialists being consulted for MMaR applications?

I heard a rumour that the specialist a category 2 patient has seen is going to be consulted as to whether they think cannabis will help their patients. If they don't, you will get turned down.

This goes against what HC seems to say on their site so I'm not sure what to think. I applied and am waiting on my acceptance/rejection, but my specialist is not on board. My GP who signed my papers is however. I'm a few weeks into the process and really don't want to go back to big-pharma solutions that the doctors push, but I am loosing my mind waiting.

Has anyone else heard this? Can anyone guarentee I'll get my licence  :).

No, specialist is only there to verify condition, ie you receive a document from your specialist outlining your condition only, you attach that to your forms when sending to your doctor to sign. You only need to include the name of the specialist, not the document from your specialist with your condition(s) (that is only for the signing doctor to verify your condition).

Once the Doctor signs your MMAR papers, and you fall under Category 1 or Category 2 conditions, HC cannot refuse the authorization. They can only refuse an authorization if the documents are incomplete. Your specialist is not contacted by any party in my experience.

Although, I'm unsure how it would work if your specialist and the signing doctor were one and the same person.

This is what I thought, but I did get the information from someone fairly close to the system. After reading and reading and reading, I can't find anything to substantiate this so I'm just going to hold my breath until that HC letter comes.

If any forum members want to cross your fingers for me, it would be greatly appreciated ... I've been trying to legitimize my choice of medication for 10 years and any luck a forum member can throw my way would be greatly appreciated :).
