Ares Rocket launch

They are trying (again) to launch the Ares V rocket (the one on the far right) at the Cape today.... eta around 10:30 . The only thing holding it up is the weather.

This sucker is as big as a SaturnV and should put on quite a visual show.

Weather permitting here (clouds), I will try and snap a few pics.....

327 feet tall.... that's what I'm talking about ... :wink:
 
Oh, for pete's sakes, I went to the website and once I actually saw the rocket ... :sad:

NVM!!! This is the Ares I, not the V ... dang it... no biggie.
 
How cool! When my parent's took the kid's ( sister and myself) to Florida, I was fortunate enough to see a space probe launch, wasn't quite sure if it was a satellite, cool none the less. Cool thread.
 
It's now set for 10:15. It's a stripped down version of the V, but it will make the space shuttle look like a bottle rocket!! :lol:

I'm all set up for pic's ... just waiting on a Go Go Go..
 
Sounds like a good time. I'd like to see a launch in real life one day. The first time I watched one on TV was in the 2nd grade. It was a big deal because my teach new the teacher aboard the Challenger. It was a sad day.

I was working in Cocoa for about two years.... we did work at Nasa and patrick Air Force base. Saw amazing things. It got to be ridiculous though...Patrick has it's own launch pads and every couple of weeks.... a dang rocket would shoot off nearby. :lol:

I was lucky enough to see many launches up close as well as stealth bombers and F18's.....in the early morning.... 200 feet off flightline,.... in the fog..... 25 foot blue flame shooting out of those F-18' when they kicked up the initial thrust....very kewl.

I also got to see the very first night launch of the Shuttle. Lit up the whole town...


Okay, it's now at 11:00. Their window of opportunity ends at 12:00, but I think 11:00 will be the trick. the clouds are moving off, and the skies are clearing...at least at my acreage.
 
it was supposed to launch yesterday at like 10 am but because the window for nice weather was too small they scrubbed it. im excited to see this go up!

Three hours wasted!!

I brought out my 10 ft ladder to give me a better view in a new spot. That sucker launched right behind a big arse tree. By the time I jumped off the ladder and moved... too late!

I'll use my old position next time... :lol:
 
I've always wanted to see a shuttle launch. I live in florida, but I can never see them. :(


On a side note I was watching a special on the moon last night, and they started talking about this new kind of shuttle that worked because of some kind of nuclear explosion. From what I saw, it looked like it would work the same way a hot air balloon does, but they said it is capable of flying like, 10,000,000 (Mill) miles per hour.
I think they called it the medusa or something. I was really high. Any Idea what that was?
 
No, I've never heard of it, but I have always thought that something along the lines of nuclear power as a required space fuel. It's the most concentrated energy we know of, and space trips are going vast distances.

Medusa,...Are you sure you didn't drift off and someone changed the channel to star trek? :lol:
