Ash catcher/screen?

So do people here all use ash catchers for their bongs? We bought a bong like 3 weekends ago and it filters it twice (2 places for water), but it seems that sometimes the ash, or maybe even some greens get sucked through the bowl piece and into the water, so I was just wondering are we potentially losing some of our bud or what?

I mean it probably is just ash but just in case was seeing what you guys do or if you guys use screens or anything.

sounds like your bowlpiece might be too big, especially if greens are fallin through

You should put a screen in the bowl head. But I know sometimes the
screen won't stay and will slide out.
Wait until the bowl head is fully resinated then cook your screen into
the resin.

I have been doing some searching around since breaking my... slider, I think that's.. yeah, the slider. I found these really neat looking tiny little glass screens!
(This is just one site and the designs they carry, I've never seen these in use though)
Glass Pipe Screens

I always prefer to use a screen, it filters alot of ash and makes for smoother hits. You'll also never pull a cherry into your mouth or lose greens.

an ashcatcher is mostly just to keep a bong clean by trapping most of the larger particles in the first chamber.

edit: bongjuice's comment on the screen holds some merit. they are VERY easy to lose when you ash your bowl, but if you let it get rezzed into the bowl you don't really have to worry about it. Unless you're like me in which case you lose screens all the time. (I try hard to keep my glass clean, it's not paraphernalia without resin!)

and seamaiden, those are the exact kind of screens I use, the flower shaped ones work quite well and are available at most tobacco shops that sell pipes of you just ask. prices range from $0.25 to $2.00 for screens that are essentially identical, so ask around!

ya ya thats why i use my ashcatcher for my RooRs

sounds good, yeah not sure if there are in fact a lot of greens going through or not, but like when you suck it through and it all goes down I'm always like damn I hope that was just ash...but I can never tell haha.

Also I've never used a screen before but are those things like just pieces of glass or what? (in my mind I was just picturing like a screen from a grinder hah)

they're glass in a little 5-point flower shape. it's pretty straightforward how they work. I swear by em, but it doesn't mean i absolutely need one.

There are also little propeller-shaped ones, and kind of... tuba-shaped ones, and the daisy ones. We have no smoke shops in my county... but I DO have Google and am going into the big city tomorrow. (Oh! Maybe I could replace my slider! that would be so fucking bomb)

i like the round metal screens that i can shape into a cone and put in my bowl...they stay pretty well and havent had any problems. i tried the flower shaped glass screens and didnt like them at all. they get full of sticky resin super quick and block the hole too much...i wasnt getting hardly any smoke at all when i took a hit...so i went back to the metal ones and got the smoke back lol and i just figure...who cares if i lose metal screens? they're like...a buck for a pack of 5...

I can't find a fucking head shop in North Highlands. God dammit! I know there's gotta be something out that way.
