Attic Grow Room.

This is my first post here so be nice .
I have recently moved away from my parents house into a flat with 3 room mates. Despite being smokers themselves they would freak out about the idea of a weed growing operation. I have an attic that is only accessible via my bedroom (My roomies would never come in let alone into the attic). The attic size is about 5 meters by 3 meters (16 feet by 9. but has an angled ceiling which at its highest is about 6 foot. It has on one wall access to the outside via a ventilation gap. My first problem is temperature.... It can get quite hot (Up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit). How can this problem be solved quietly and efficiently? My second problem is smell, I have been inside a grow room before and obviously there is an overwhelming smell, will the smell go down into my flat? Also any suggestions on layout, hydro/soil, or just general wisdom from past attic growers would be appreciated. I have a budget of around $1000 but I already have seeds. I was hoping to grown around 5 plants. The strain is Kandy Kush x A local sativa strain.

Gonna be hard to keep temps down in the attic. My grow is upstsirs and its winter out and I still have to have a lot of ventallation. I use leds also. How often are you wanting to crop out and how much dried bud are you lookin to grow each crop. If your roommates won't know it seems kinda messed up. They could go down with you if you got into trouble. Noise and heat are gonna be your biggest hills to climb. I'm a noob and just harvested my first grow today. But I would suggest finding someone you can have your orders shipped to or your roommates will catch on. Can you even get a sheet of plywood up there? First up your budget! Lol. Maybe get a 4x4 gorilla tent.(if your doing Sativa strain might want a tent 1' extension)And 4 led panels(much less heat). Grow in soil to not have the noise of pumps and air stones bubbling. (I hear mine from upstairs while I'm sitting downstairs). Grow like 16 clones in there in smaller containers and veg for short period of time and flower. Cropping out quicker and if you lose some plants you have 16 going to back up the losses. Ventallation is huge. If you can get fresh air from outside I would have an intake fan and another Exaust fan for the tent. Or if there is a ceiling vent in your bedroom, then pull air from your bedroom through that duct to the tent. You are going to have high temps especially if you go with hps. Does your attic have a vent fan? Like the big ones that clear out your house house. Maybe set that on a timer somehow so once it gets to a certain temp up there that fan kicks on for 5 minutes. As for the smell you just get a carbon filter on your Exaust fan. I'd say a 6" Exaust and 6x18 Carbon filter and a 4" intake fan would be good. Anyway you do it your roommates could easily find out. Everything is loud. Insulated ducting helps. Hope this helped.

Thanks man! Gives me something to start with! I should definitely talk to my roomies... maybe the promise of free Mary Jane will turn them over. Anyway There isn't an intake fan but there is a big hole that has just been tarped over with plastic so I could install one. Could you recommend an LED brand?

Having more than one person in on something illegal as growing isn't a good idea either lol. Unless you trust them with your life and they aren't "talkers" and would share with anyone. Always keep it a secret to everyone.

Soil, pots, insulated ducting, nutrients, ph meters, spray bottles, etc ext probanly another $300 or more. I gave you links to 6 and 8" fans cause you might as well go bigger in case. Can always get a fan speed controller. And if your gonna do it nigt as well do it right. Your power is gonna go up maybe 40 bucks just a guess. As long as you choose a solid intake and exuast spots in the attic you'll be good.

A seperate third fan on that hole in your attic would be a good idea too. Just for during the day to constantly blow the heat out. There should be a good fan that's made for that exact thing that would look good and work good at lowes.(only if the other fans don't keep it cool.

You may not be able to fit tents in that space well because of the angled ceiling. Double check before you order. I had to downsize my original plan for this exact reason. Since you have a low ceiling, a DIY made from 2x2 and panda film might work better. Depends how handy you are, and how far you are willing to go to grow.

Also, won't your roommates want to know why you are walking around in the attic when they hear you from below?

I'm surprised the 'rain on your parade' crew hasn't come out of the woodwork to tell you that hiding a potentially hazardous / illegal grow from people within the dwelling is questionable practice. It won't work, and you shouldn't take risks on their behalf without their knowledge.

You should get your own small place, grow in your room, don't have friends over. If you can't do that, maybe you need to wait a bit.

If you're really committed, lets fucking do this. Lets roll up the sleeves, and get some dirt under the nails.
I think you'd better be prepared to throw money at the heat issue though. A/C will be necessary.

damn i was thinking of growing an attic also. me and my girl are in a apartment now and its a bitch growing here. im in cali so smell its a problem isnt her parents....at the end of the year they want us to move into the house when they go buy another one...its shitty to be paying the fucking mortgage and cant do what i want in a 3 bedroom 2 bath house with a 2 car garage...im almost feel like telling them im cool..... as for you dont tell your roommates...and plan everything out....as for noise and shit...if you tell them they might be cool but they might start telling other people then your either in jail or getting robbed.....so how will you do the pge?

fuck the l.e.d they may work but they cost way too much.....i would do a bomb ass cfl grow....what seeds do you have....i would do 12/12 from the start since you dont waht to really drag this out

Enough led panels to cover a 4x4 tent for a badass grow and anywhere from 1/2 lb to a lb harvests is around $1200 how much can you sell a half pound of weed for? More than $1200 lights pay for themselves first harvest of your good.
Running hps may be cheaper but running extra fans and cooling running longer etc will continually cost you more every single grow. You make your money back for the led lights rigt away and then don't spend as much on the above mentioned^^ from then on out like you do with hps. I

he said personal use... now you making him out as a dealer..... and he also said living with roommates. with temps going up to 100....either get a cheap 400 watt set up for about 200-300 from ebay or do cfl....most of the money will go into covering the smell and controlling the heat...if he wants led then go for it

Lol well what I'm saying is there's opportunity to make your money back if you can. And idk about hps except for that their hard to keep the surrounding tent or room cool even with air cooled hoods. In an attic would be really tough. Leds will give you that chance. But either way he's not in a good spot to grow and I probably wouldn't. But if he wants to I get it I love to grow now. Area 51 led is where I was directed by some good members and they are amazing so far love em.

Some cheap flourecent fixtures with differnt spectrum bulbs for flower in the same space would be almost as good as led for heat but not quite I don't think. But he could do it cheaper that way and at least get enough bud to smoke for himself and some roomates if they get in on it. More practical I guess

I have an 'attic grow'. Well, its upstairs in a shed, but same issues with temps (high and low), funny shaped roof etc.

I grow upstsirs with angled roof but just enough room to squeeze a 4x4 tent in. The door is lower so it works. And if I was using hps Id be too hot. I'm perfext with the leds. 70-80 daytime 60-70 night time

That'll be a lot easier than trying to silently build in a cramped space. They're a good tent. Sturdy frame.
