Auto-Flower vs. Photoperiod Flower

Some people think because Ruderalis is crossbred to create the auto-flowers that the potency suffers. Ruderalis is usually used for hemp and has a low THC content. I have tried some auto strains that knocked me on my ass. Personally I don't see a problem with auto-flowers.

I think it's sort of a "everyone's right" situation in the sense that earlier autoflower strains had potency issues and therefore gained a bad rap... but over the years people have succeeded it procuring much more potent genetics in autoflowers. Something along those lines. I bet most autoflowers these days are plenty potent.

Exactly. Times have changed and some of the newer strains are strong. I had couch lock for about 4 hours after smoking a northern lights auto strain. Wow.

I haven't given it a try yet myself but I would like to try growing them eventually... I like the idea of doing autoflowers because you can keep the light cycle at 18+ hours even during flowering, giving them a lot more potential juice during the flowering period.

perhaps autos have improved, i have never tried them myself and have no plans to,
i cant really see any benefit to them other than they will flower outside out of season during summer months
they can be grown well outside in the uk for example during the summer months

since folk have great success indoor keeping plants manageable using 12/12 photo period from seed, and pruning and training methods
help to keep plants very small if height restrictions are a problem
autos will not clone, and the seeds are more costly to start with
much less selection of genetics among autos
many many negatives and very few positives for autos
i think they appeal to new growers as fem seeds do,
new growers think fems and autos are more simple to use than photo period plants, and or are sold on the ready from seed in 60 days hype that i see around a lot with these autos,
photo period plants can also be ready just as fast on a 12/12 from seed photo period

peace :)

The seeds cost more but you can breed an auto strain( like three buds) and have plenty from then on out

i never grew an auto myself but i smoked plenty of auto strains my boy always keep a couple growing i dont see the potency issue i was high as shit in the bronxs talking shit lol

Another advantage is you can grow them A to Z in a Veg room with MH lighting along with normal strains. I like the smoke. Even if a particular auto strain isn't kick-ass potent, maybe they are as beneficial for other things besides getting high. Case in point: Low Ryder #3 is one of the best strains for pain IMO.

There are a few advantages to autos, none of which outweigh the disadvantages IMO.

1. They harvest a little earlier, but not as much as advertised
2. you don't have to worry about a light-proof room
3. you can grow them in a veg room where there is 24 hr light
4. they stay small

Downside IMO is they don't yield enough to make the few advantages worthwhile.

Iranian G-13 auto-flower yield.

I germ 10 autos every 3 weeks with a total lifespan of 70 days and every harvest at least a zip every plant. So 10 ozs every three weeks of potent bud seems great to me.
