Bathroom ventilation fan usable in grow box?

I got a ventilation fan like for a bathroom/shower that is set up to vent into a 4inch outlet hose(which I already had). Do you think this will be workable for a closet grow box setup? I think it was a 70cfm, if I remember correctly.:bigjoint:

What you need to know? Got open top for air flow right now, but will be enclosing it soon and adding DIY carbon filter and maybe the vent hose to cut down on smell. Closet is large enough that if the carbon filter and fan work well, I may not need to run vent hose to outside and will just let air be cleaned and recirculated inside.

Check out my DIY Carbon Filter! It's hot. And simple. Only three steps and Four pieces to put together.

what kind of lights? how many? how many plants? what size containers? what are your closets dimensions and what are the box itself? how long do you plan to veg for? your plants need fresh air still so your going to want to put an exhaust and a passive intake. what are your temps running right now? how close is the light source/sources from the plants?

It works well for up to 400W when ambient is around 15°C.
You can only use up to a meter (and thats pushing it) of ducting and it is not powerfull enough to run with a carbon filter. You could make a custom carbon filter that will fit but you will significaly decrease the speed of the vent.

Growing in soil with CFLs, so temps are not a problem. Colder weather here now means my top temps only get to 77F with lights on. The closet is about 3feet by 10feet (with whatever is standard ceiling height) but my grow box is only about 2x4 of that. It is open topped right now, but I have plans to enclose it completely when I add the vent fan and leave a passive air intake at the bottom and vent at the top with DIY carbon filter pad over fan intake area. Closet is almost empty so there is plenty of free air space that may be enough to just re-circulate air without needing the vent hose to outside. Finishing 8week veg in a few days and switching to flower with 2700k CFLs - expect half to be males, so I should have maybe 3 or 4 plants to finish after they sex. Plants are only 10-16 inches now, so they won't be monsters - topped most for 4 colas, so they'll be more of the bushy/stocky style than beanstalks. Have a small pan of ONA GEL in use and smell is not bad yet, and really only need to control it when family is over at Xmas next month. Plants will only be three weeks into flower then, so the smell shouldn't be at its worst. So does the 70cfm vent fan sound like it will be good enough to draw air through the carbon filter pad?

funny. I just bought a 10 dollar one today thinking the same thing. already has a connection for ducting or filters so i figured id give it a try. only 10 bucks right

Just to give you a word of warning, bathroom ventalation fans are usualy VERY loud, mine is certainly louder than my 6" ruck fan to give you an idea.

Fan box says its mid way between 'silent' and 'loud' - the range was from 0 to 6, with this model being a 3 on the noise rating (best model on shelf was still a 2.5 rating). Noise won't be much of an issue anyway...just need it strong enough to suck air through a carbon filter pad.

grow space 2x4x~10 = ~80CF
fan rating ~ 70CFM (without filter)

you might need a 100cfm with a filter

2x4x6 = 48 cf
so a 70cfm fan might work pretty good

can it handle 24h load?

I cant imagine a bathroom fart fan being strong enough to pull any serious heat out of the box, but for 10 bucks its worth trying. I have a box and a fan kind of like these, but a much cheaper model. Ive had it so long I dont remember the brand of mine or where I got it or else I'd tell you. Its mounted in the box and too much work to take apart to find the name, sorry. But if you can find a blower in this style, you can bet it will be enough: http://www.hydrogalaxy.com/climate-control/exhaust-fans-circulators/ecoplus-blower-465cfm/?gclid=CN-Yz42PpLkCFXBo7Aode38A-g
