ur local lowes or home depot has 70w hps security lights with the ballast and light in same casing. all u need to do to rig these up for growing is connect them to a heavy duty extension cord (male) and ur good to go bro.

I bought the 70w security light at lowes and it sucks. I am only flowering 2 very short plants and it is not enough light I also have 2 42w warm cfls in the box and one of the cfl's is brighter. The 70W HPS puts out 6000 lumes according to the box, one good 42w cfl puts out almost 3000 according to the box. The 70w is about $50??? and 10 cfls putting out 30000 lumes is about the same price. Or go for a bigger HPS. Just my advice

Ps if you do get it, the stater and balast is in the case above the light and it is very very easy to wire to a standard plug.

While I can certainly understand your frustration, especially when only looking at the lumens, but there is more to lighting than only lumens. That hps light is going top penetrate much further that a cfl will.
Peace
