Best Medium?

Sorry if this thread already exist. I've tried doing a forum search but couldn't find anything... If it already exist, please link me to it.

In your opinion, what is the best grow medium for a diy ebb&flow system? I'm using rockwool but am planning to switch to clay pellets or lava rocks. Any suggestions?

coco coir and perlite...

I'm i'm not mistaken, that is inert. What would make that "inert" medium better than any other?

everybody claims coco to be the best hydro medium.

disclaimer: those are not mines...just showing you. i flood coco, not drip...... even tho most drippers swear up and down the best way for coco to be watered is from the top down, not bottom up (flood and drainers). and of course we flood and drainers swear up and down that they are lying...haha

I like top to bottom... but i mix things up occasionally.

Thank you guys for your help and comments but I think coco coir is not an option for me. Do you guys have a preference of clay pellets or rookwool?
