Provincial police shared this aerial view of the illegal cannabis operation, which was raided on August 13 as part of Project Woolwich. (OPP)
Provincial police say they've shut down a massive operation in the Niagara Region that rerouted cannabis grown for medical use to the illegal market, seizing more than 100,000 plants and $2.5 million Canadian.
The 12-month investigation, dubbed Project Woolwich, involved police across the country and partnership with U.S. border officials.
Police say the accused are not members of organized crime groups, but described them as a "criminal enterprise with a large-scale, sophisticated operation."
Investigators say they seized shipments of cannabis destined for the U.S. as well as two large shipments of U.S. currency headed for Canada.
The accused were also responsible for "large-volume shipments" of illegal cannabis from B.C. to Ontario, according to police, who estimate the total duty loss for the illegal cannabis seized is more than $42 million.
"This criminal enterprise may not be a known organized crime group, but they are people with power, influence and money and are extremely opportunistic," stated Det. Insp. Jim Walker of the OPP's organized crime enforcement bureau in a media release.
"Criminals are exploiting the Health Canada medical cannabis personal and designate production regime by diverting the cannabis to the illegal market and are profiting greatly from this illegal activity."
Eight people were arrested following raids throughout the GTA and Niagara Region, Leamington and British Columbia on August 13.
Police say they seized the following:
  • 101,049 illegal cannabis plants.
  • 1,921 pounds of illegal cannabis bud.
  • 21 pounds of illegal cannabis shatter.
  • Two ounces of cocaine.
  • Three pounds of illegal cannabis hash.
  • 22 pounds of illegal cannabis oil.
  • Hundreds of illegal cannabis vape pens.
  • Six firearms including tan AR 15 assault rifle and two shotguns.
  • Grow equipment worth more than $1 million.
  • High-end jewellery items.
  • Four vehicles.
  • More than $2.5 million in Canadian currency.
  • $580,828 in US currency.
  • $379,383 in Chinese and South Korean currency.
The accused, who police say are residents from Niagara and the Greater Toronto Area, are facing charges under the Cannabis Act, Controlled Drug and Substances Act and the Criminal Code of Canada.

Funny that the only "problem" is that the Government wasn't getting paid.

Fucking hypocrites.
My thoughts exactly. If they truly cared about abolishing the black market they would have made it legal to grow, no limits.
The price would have crashed so hard and pot would be so available that nobody in their right mind would even think of trying to make a profit off of it.

Pascal Robidas, RDi Matin/Twitter - Riposte du crime organise (2018-Feb-26):

« ... à chaque fois qu'y a une perquisition où y'a une serre intérieure ça appartient à 98 %, euh... à la mafia asiatique... »

Translation: each time there's a bust with some indoor greenhouse involved it belongs to asian mafia 98 % of the time!

Déjà vu. Like saying 98 % of "stoner$"/"droÿé$" with green thumbs have almond-shaped eyes, since Trudeau criminalized them...

The very fact that it is only a matter of "who" you buy it from that makes it legal or illegal.
In other words " buy mine or I'll use my legal powers to fuck you over"
That is the basic jist of it now isn't it!!!!
It turns out it's not the actual substance they are against. It you not lining their pockets that irks them!
Imagine being told to do business with us or else. JAIL !!!!!
Well that's what they are saying after all.
HYPOCRITS ...YOU FUCKING BET

BOYCOTT or be trudys boy!

Are you being serious?

How do you know the weed has mold ? And even if they are "Asians" trying to get rich what would be wrong with that?

Nothing against Asians some good friends of mine are and they say the same thing about it. These guys get people to come over from wherever and force them to work on the farms in order to pay for their way into Canada. They live in substandard conditions and aren't paid much if anything at all. Made to work growing cannabis when they have prob never even seen it before in their lives.
Don't get so butthurt because I said 'asians' you cancel culture like folk don't even look at the big picture or real issue you look at a word in a paragraph and twist it to make it about that when in fact it never was in the first place.
Most of the guys in that bust were guess it...... Asian ohh no I said Asian I'm racist right. Lmfao. You're a tool. What's wrong with it is that people are using and abusing human beings for illegal profits. Doesn't matter their race. no one should be treated like that.
And if you don't think it's linked to large criminal organizations you're kidding yourself. Theyre just smart enough to not leave trails to themselves and threaten families to ensure it.
