Bigger Res...Faster Growth?

I currently growing hydro for the first time. I have my plant in a 3.5 gall bucket with 2 gal of solution. My question is, if i were to switch it to 10 gal rubber maid container would this help my growth? Or would most of the growth be towards more roots.

I have also read that if the there is less room for roots the plants spend more time growing upwards rather than downwards.....is this true?

i would say go with the biggest size you can afford and can fit into your seytem (height wise too). the idea with the bigger res is that the bigger the res, the less diluted it will be with the crap it picks up from the plant and flows back to the res(ie waste? or salts). with the bigger res you will have to change it less often and the water will stay a bit more fresher due to more avail water for the plant. hope that makes sense.
