currently using ro water, dyna-gro with cal-mag plus also dutch master zone. switched to prevent the brown roots id always get mid-flower, then they would rot. new issue what could all this black stuff be accumulating in my res. also tried the great white with hit and miss results before i picked up the zone of course.

The "skin" from the roots. Your skin dies and flakes off all the time, you don't "see" it ,,, but it does.
Same thing for the roots of your plants. It's a form of cellulose.
simple solution is...........Add a "zyme" to your res in the amounts stated by the maker. The "zyme" will breakdown the cellulose fibers and turn them back into usable nutrition for the plant! Just like in soil, naturally!
Good ones to choose? Hesi - Power Clean, Canna - Zyme, Cyco - Zyme.
In that order....They are so close in how well they work that you will not go wrong with any of them!

oh ok. wow thanks i was under the impression the zyme was inactive with the zone. lol maybe i need it because im running a sterile res now. learn something new everyday. i have a semi old bottle of the hesi zyme before it was called power clean. does it have a shelf life that i should be worried about.

my understanding is pond-zyme is almost equal to great white. its beneficial bacteria, now my res is sterile it will kill beneficial bacteria so pond-zyme wont work for me. but i do have my hesi power zyme, im just unsure on its shelf life and would like to know.
