Black Skull Seeds (Speed Haze)

So this is my second run with this strain. 3 wks into flower, bad luck hit, and my hps died. Had to run out and get emergency lighting (CLF's) and these took them through flowering. The seeds were inexpensive and I found some outstanding phenos. One in particular (sativa pheno) smells incredible- strong citrus candy and liquor. The other sativa pheno is sweet like candy, without the liquor scent. Both stretched like fucking Crazy during flower. There is lots of variation, but most phenos are fantastic and outstanding in some way. Great quality, considering what i paid for the seeds. Check out my pics-

Another pheno. Dense buds, strong piney smell with a hazy touch. Not outstanding, but not bad either.

Indica Pheno. This was my shortest plant. Fat buds, sweet n sour smell and little stretch during flower. Probably leans towards the NL5 side of the hybrid.

I am rather happy with this grow, overall. Sure i could have used more light and the buds didn't fill out as much as i would have liked, but the trichomes are There in abundance. Under better conditions, this strain could have Really raised some eyebrows. Much variation, but a keeper (or two) in every batch. Worth the $$ I paid for the seeds, to say the least

Thanks for sharing mate. Looks like ya do need a bit more light, but I see ya ran into a road block. What pot size and light are you using usually? How was the yield? even more important, how does she smoke?

Thanks bro, I used fairly large plantars for these plants, while 2 were still in smaller containers (4x4"). I have very limited space in this Stealth-grow, and that is something i'm working on. Yield is gonna be crappy for sure, about 8gm. per plant, cured. Potency however...mmm, that's where these girl shine(Literally). Resin covers everything, and 2 phenos smell Outstanding (just like citrusy-candy) - with liquor overtones. Despite the setbacks, i'm happy I came through this time Cheers

Damn lots of effort for little yield, but I feel ya. I am medical yet stealth. Probably should do some training and get them to Bush out a bit. But I give props to anyone who can grow their own. It's such an awesome experience, particularly if one is use to just buying herb, to grow ones own, despite challenges and limitations beyond ones control. Cut them stems and put them buds in a jar. Looks nice, props!

Just curious, amigo - why did you choose Black Skull ? I bought a 10 pack of Pineapple Gum a few years ago because of the low price mostly. I just wanted to qualify for whatever 'tude promo was going on. I ran about 5 of them. I look at them as very similar to Dinafem, in that they were all vigorous w/ no growing issues, and produced good yields. The smoke was good, not great, but I'd think it would be a solid pick for a commercial grower.

Re: your hps dying: if it's just the bulb, replacements are a low as $12 for 400 watts at Amazon. I've had to make that call myself, and now keep a couple extra around for insurance.

I chose Black-Skull for 2 reasons. I wanted a nice haze that didn't cost out the ass (as most do). It wasn't the bulb bro, my ballast stopped working. What seed co. do you like as far as potency/ taste/effect?

Don't get me wrong - ain't knocking Black Skull at all. As you say, I was buying cheap [to get some freebies], and I can't complain about the product for the price, if that's how it came across.

The plant in the bottom left is one I'd recommend all day long - it's my 3rd bean of c-99 [FS]. Not even four wks of 12/12 and the sweet pineapple smell is all about her. Rub the stem just a bit and it's such a fine aroma, and I dig the sativa high. The fast finish just tops it off....such a pleasure to grow and smoke.

The other 3 are first dates: top left is Loud pre-98 Bubba, top r is WoS Mazar Kush, and bottom r is Sin City Tangerine Power. I expect some good things here...have had no problems at all.

I like to explore new companies if I see something that strikes my fancy. I've had stellar [IMO} smoke from FS, TGA, Soma, Bodhi, FoS, WoS, TH, E$kobar, Dynasty, RP, and even Dr Underground. I'd say keep running speed haze if you like it - i'd love a hit or 3.

There's the problem - I rarely run the same strain twice in a row; almost never in the fem bean room, and it's only an occasional clone I'll take. I ran moms and clones for a couple of years, but no longer. With a cupboard full of various jarred buds, I've become addicted to running variety - sort of a russian roulette approach of popping new [to me] beans every round, especially in the fem tent.

The first few weeks in bloom, btw, are the first time the plants see MH/HPS. The entire vegging pre-12/12 is done under CFLs. One 105 watt is plenty for every two plants @ 3-4 weeks.

I think the MH somewhat minimize the stretch early, but I'm not positive, though I have learned to up the nitrogen those first two weeks in bloom. That's about it....
