Budder/Cocobudder made with fresh/frozen buds. Almost no trimming needed!

I've been making cocobudder with cured and dried pot that I painfully trimmed to perfection with my arthritic hands for a few years now. Waste of time and effort when I can make a better product with barely trimmed buds fresh off the plant or frozen for later use.

With my arthritic hands trimming is a hated chore so 90% of everything is getting a quick snip of anything without sugar on it then processed into oil or cocobudder fresh off the plant or stored fresh in the freezer until I can get around to processing it. Drying it first loses to many terps etc so I don't want that.

I did my last batch of CBD cocobudder with bud that's been in the freezer for a few months and was very pleased with the results. Made 500ml of budder and gave #1 son a 250ml mason jar full when I went out to BC the end of last Nov.

Coconut oil in a pan on a hotplate that has a 4x4" piece of 1/2" mesh metal screen on it to dissipate the heat. A hand blender to grind up the bud once the oil melts and warms up and raise the heat using the variac to get it just right so it decarbs in the oil. I used a mercury lab thermometer and the laser one too to monitor the heat. The laser one was pretty much right on with the lab one so I can just use it to keep track of the temps. Can cook it up right beside my chair in the mancave so I don't miss any TV stirring it. :)

You can use butter, MCT oil, olive etc to make this.

With the variac I have more precise control of the heat. I just leave the 1000W hotplate on Max and start the power at 65% until around 150F then grind it up good. Then I raise the temp to a little over 212F/100C to boil off the water that was in the buds. After the bubbles stop raise the temp to 235F - 250F where it bubbles again as the pot decarbs. Once that stops lower the heat to below 212 and add a Tbsp or so of liquid sunflower lecithin then let it cool more so I don't burn myself then just pour it thru a fine mesh kitchen strainer into mason jars. I press down on the pot in the strainer to squeeze out some but save that used pot for smoothies or baking so nothing goes to waste. It's soaked with the oil so just as potent. Tip: Squish it all flat after putting in a ziplock so it's easy to break off chunks after freezing. Hard as hell to cut with a butcher knife when in a ball.

Once in jars it should be frozen overnight then thawed and frozen again to bond the lecithin to the cannabinoids for better absorption in the gut. Snacking on something containing fats/oils a half hour or so before taking your dose keeps the liver busy working on the first stuff so the cannabinoids can circulate unmolested for longer before the liver enzymes get at them.

Going to experiment with flavouring it tho it's not horrible to eat right off a spoon. A little organic raw blue agave or real maple syrup might be nice. Ceylonese cinnamon could be tasty as well. :)

Good medicine and barely any trimming required! happydance.gif

I've been using BadKats Cannabis oil recipe. Very similar to yours, but they don't recommend freezing twice. If it helps bond the lecithin, I'm all for it.

Nice recipe!
We've just been breaking down our trim & larf, then baking in the oven at 240f to decarb.
Using a double boiler to keep temps even - 180f for 3-4 hours, stir occasionally.
Strain through cheesecloth lined strainer. Squeeze out all the butter possibly - careful to avoid ripping the cheesecloth.
Chill in ice bath in the sink, or put in the refrigerator until solid.

Very simple method - it does leave a definite weed flavor.
Not using the double boiler and simply boiling with the water removes a lot of chlorophyll taste, but adds a small step of separating the water from the butter after it solidifies.

I've done that exact kind of budder making but have grown to like this method as it's so much less work and doesn't taste bad at all.

Whatever works for you is best tho.

I'm going to give your way a try for sure - looks easy & effective. Always up for trying new methods! :weed:

I love the taste of decarbed weed butter, but I know that some don't so I mention that aspect.

I find when you oven decarb first my budder has a nicer, kind of roasted nut taste but still that bitterness in there too. I don't find the taste really bad but it totally ruined a plate of beans on toast I added some to once. Ate it anyhow but did not enjoy! lol

I keep the pressed out pot and put it in a ziplock baggie in the freezer to add to smoothies or baked goods. Every bit as potent as the budder if not more so, so well worth keeping. I squish it all down flat in the baggie before freezing so it's easy to break off chunks and weigh them before use to keep the dosage within limits that don't overdose ya if THC pot was used to make it.

Even when I make RSO for the wife I wait until the solvent is all removed then decarb the oil in our little oven that has glass doors so I can watch for the bubbling to stop when decarb is over. I have a multimeter with temperature probe I can use to monitor the temp and aim for 250F for a full 30 min seems to do it.

Lots of ways to skin this cat. ;)

Nice informative post, as usual OMU. Thanks. If I ever get my stuff together, i might try, but remember,
i'm the idjit who can't have open smells floating about the house. What I'm going to try next (say May,
i hope) is decarbing in oven in seal-a-mealed double sealed bags, then go ahead an extract that product
using Everclear, and then do something to reduce the alcohol %age of the everclear, probly evaporation,
or add water. Remember i have yet to get high on a tincture, which is what I'm trying to make. My wife
hopefully, will be able to use the tincture with good effect, and then not have to smoke it anymore due
to her COPD.

You should maybe think about one of these SS airtight decarb containers if you want to make sure there's no stink when you oven decarb.

Personally I'd rather just eat my oil straight up or use it in baking by mixing it with hot butter or other fats to add to recipes.

For tinctures you can use an oil to extract and not worry about getting the 'burn' from alcohol based tinctures. MCT is a great oil for that but plenty others will work as well.

I never used it. I knew it was gonna stank, no matter how "virtually odorless" they said it is.
Plus, one of the two alum pots had been very slightly bent in shipping. Probly not enough
to matter, and the other pot was fine, so I could still use it, but i knew it'd stank.

Last time i decarbed, i did it in a small, half pint mason jar, under water inside a bag.
I think i ran it for like 60 mins at like 250° F. NO SMELL. So now i'm a try inside two oven bags,
double bagged and each bag sealed, and hopefully it won't smell the house up. Once you
get that smell in the house, you ain't gettin' it out, is why i'm so picky about this, yanno. So
somebody who doesn't smoke, cannabis and/or cigs will pick it up before they enter the
house, damn sure. I know I can, and i smoke, so def they can. We smoke our joints outside
for the past 7 years, and that's it. Other than the few times yanno, that i've done tinctures, and
other extracts and vapes, and even several edibles i've tried. All are from the dispo, so none
really worked.

Yanno what i'd like to see is a dispo that does grower product and not fucking corporatized
industrialized, mass production buds and product. But the state won't allow licenses as we know. :(
When I used to think of legalization back in the 60s and 70s, i thought of it as we'd be allowed
to grow our own, and not state-established, state-regulated growing operations, like it is now.

Anyhow in May i'm a try to make a half decent tincture, hopefully it'll work. See, the oil idea for it
is great, but the only way to extract with oil is by heating. With alcohol, all i have to do is soak it
in the Everclear, strain it, reduce the 95% alcohol content at least by half, then dropper it under my
tongue. Boy i dropped some straight everclear tinc under there last time, and thought it was going
to permanently injure my tongue. Whew. And i used to drink Everclear. But not the same as sublingual.

Anyhow, i think that 420activator'd be a darn good product, just as good as those more popular Novas
that r out there, or even better. I'm a try to sell it in RIU at some point.

EDIT: I just now looked at your link. Those are def interesting. I still think they'd smell, though, but hell
i could order a small one for like $25.00 and try that, maybe. Who knows. THANKS, buddy. :peace:

I picked up a crude technique similar to this years ago. It was just using olive oil & the slow cooker. But even on low it gets too hot imo so I put large chrome 3/4” drive sockets between the bottom of the crock pot and the porcelain bowl insert so there was an air gap then ran it.

Never thought to save the pressed solids in the freezer so gonna try that. Thx for posting up
