Soil Review:
So you want to save some money on your grow and want to make it easy? Ace Hardware stores sell a soilless mix for around $15 that is adequate. I have successfully harvested using it. Under a 4ft 8 T5 set up I pulled around 5oz off 8 plants (a couple plants were just kinda halfhazardly thrown into flower and thus pulled just 1/2 oz.
The soilless mix from Ace is OK, though it has a tendency to compact the thicker the roots get, which tells me not enough perlite in the mix. I will not be using this again as I bought the big bag of Sunshine #4 ($45) but if you're just growing a couple plants try the Ace hardware mix. I would also buy a small bag of perlite and mix 1 cup perlite per 3gal container (adjust for other sizes) this will give you a bit more airy mix.
